Two battery setup in camper
  • That is correct. 1 battery for the engine and 2 for utility. I guess it has to be quite a beefy one. The interter is rated for max 166 amps. So that's quite a bit. Which also makes it a bit hard to find a suitable relay.

  • Is an extra utility battery. So that shouldn't give any issues for starting. That's a separate battery. I'll try to find one of those relays. I know I can search myself but if you have any suggestions they are always welcome:)

  • The issue is that I cant place two of the same batteries. The extra one has to go under the passenger chair so it will be a completely different battery. I'm not completely sure that we won't be running into issues then when linked in parallel.

I agree that the relay option it's added complexity and finding the right relay is a bit of a challenge haha. Also there probably will be a short drop in voltage or I have to switch them shortly after each other. So both relays are closed at the same time for a little bit. I don't know if that would fix the arcing? It will be linked in parallel for a little bit then I guess.

I want to change te battery setup in the camper van a bit.

Currently there is a single battery which is charged by either solar, engine or 230v. Then a transformer to 230v to power the outlets.

The idea is to add an extra battery. A lot of people are saying that it isn't a good idea to put those batteries in series or parallel if the batteries are not exactly he same. Now our idea is to switch between the two batteries with the help of some relais and an Arduino or something. So then + of both batteries would be connected to a relay and after the relay we can connect them together. Is this a good/safe way of doing that? Or will we be running into issues that I'm not seeing.

    Thanks in advance!

    How to help the community
  • Unfortunately I'm not a UI designer or UX expert:/ Blogs/wiki is an idea but then you would need ideas what to write about. In my dayjob I quite like helping coworkers with a specific problem to figure out what's the problem or what the best solution would be. I'm not sure how I can convert that to helping the community then

  • How to help the community

A lot of developers are helping the community by making their source code public or publishing packages to npm or something like that. Are there other ways to help? Like helping to find a bug, discussing about how to setup an application for a certain use case or anything like that? Answering questions on Stack overflow is an example but is that the best way?
