Why 12 ounce bags of coffee instead of one pound?
  • A true pound of green yields roughly 12 ounces of roasted coffee. 12oz bags have been standard in speciality shops for a long time honestly.

  • Good quality coffee should continue to develop in flavor substantially as it cools and is actually quite interesting to taste across the temperature spectrum. I'm sorry that hasn't been your experience. I do understand coffee is not for everybody, but I do believe if you have the opportunity to experience well prepared craft coffee it has the potential to change that view.

Think of cooling coffee having a similar effect as decanting wine, because high end coffee is actually extremely similar to wine. The fruit is fermented in massive containers in a very similar fashion to wine making, imparting a large volume of complex flavors. The act of roasting coffee is actually one of the most difficult sciences in the culinary world, to the point that Michelin starred chefs want nothing to do with it - it's actually that difficult to execute well. It is pretty easy for somebody to grab a bag of green coffee and absolutely destroy it. It's incredibly rare for someone to do a coffee its justice. And even then, if the person preparing it once it is roasted doesn't know what they are doing, they can take the best coffee in the world and make it taste awful.

  • I don't think it's that uncommon to sit down with a mug of coffee and sip on it over the course of an hour while working or having a chat with someone but maybe my 10 years of specialty coffee experience led me astray.

  • For what it's worth, while most of what you said is accurate, espresso contains considerably less caffeine than people tend to think it does. What makes espresso so intense on that front is the concentration per volume, and how fast espresso beverages are consumed in comparison to drip coffee. Drinking a 12oz cup of drip over an hour or two is pretty standard. A double shot cappuccino though, not so much.

  • Not in the slightest. Both versions continue to function without issue for me. The one thing you have mentioned in this thread is such a non factor for what I'd imagine is a large majority of the user base. I can't even tell you the last time I looked at the Mozilla home page

  • Not a toggle but my 4a slow charges over night when I have an alarm set so the battery will reach full just before the alarm goes off. I've woken up in the middle of the night before and sure enough the battery was only at 70-80%. I know its not quite the same, but it is a welcome feature

  • While I certainly wish that were the case, unfortunately no. I have done a considerable amount of NDA testing fwiw I guess, but nothing I've been paid for sadly 😂

  • Pixel 4a (not 5G) owners, what do you plan to do with your phone now that it reached its final Android update?
  • I plan to make the jump to an 8 this year. I was holding out on the headphone jack but it's time. The 8 should be a decent jump and the rumors about docking are really appealing to me for light office work.

  • Pixel now the 2nd largest phone brand in Japan, 4th largest in US, Canada and Australia
  • I've been a pixel user since the week they came out. My launch week pixel lasted nearly 5 years before the microphone gave out and I went to a 4a. Still on the 4a and love it. Pixels are a perfect middle ground between iPhone and the full android experience of a Samsung flagship imo. Convenient to use, incredible software integration across the entire phone, and my 4a still has a 3.5mm jack which is a massive selling point for me. I intend to upgrade to an 8 when they launch if the rumors surrounding the introduction of a docking capability are true. Being able to set my phone down onto a dock and have it convert to a light desktop PC would be amazing. I know Samsung has Dex currently, but I'm really just not a fan of what Samsung does with their phones.

  • Apple Music or Spotify? what do you use and why?
  • Yeah, it's definitely not perfect, but years of crafting my existing playlists has led to a pretty solid foundation for discovery to work with. I'll get something I've heard before maybe once a month these days, but this is after basically 7 years of listening almost weekly.

  • Apple Music or Spotify? what do you use and why?
  • pretty much all of this. i bought into a family plan of spotify premium back in maybe 2016 and haven't looked back.

audio quality is fantastic. arguably only tidal has a higher bitrate for their premium plans, but it's so negligible unless you're really deep into audiophile territory. discover weekly is actually really good if you carefully curate your playlists and has led me to many new artists. while i don't have personal experience with other platforms underground music, spotify has a shockingly large number of small time artists that i absolutely love.
