I feel betrayed...
  • prisons used to have treadmills to power machines. six hours a day, with rest breaks.

when there's an engine to replace that, of course they'd explain it in terms of how many men it could replace permanently.

saying "but look at how much power Usain Bolt can produce for a few seconds" is not relevant.

the hp unit is reasonable based on whole-day power from typical farm horses.

  • Any day now Joe, c'mon man!
  • you don't seem to have considered that your profession exists in every other country, and in your nation's peers, your peers in the same profession are less miserable than you seem to be.

  • Just a little friendly compromise, what could go wrong?
  • thanks pug, for posting and commenting so much, for countering yog/lb's poison every day.

you're doing good, and it really helps me personally, seeing sane responses that i don't have the energy to make myself so often.

  • Just a little friendly compromise, what could go wrong?
  • same. I stopped being active in my trade union because my local's case officer has had his brain rotted by Grayzone and Dore etc, he harassed me for months with late night messages that "no Russia doesn't target civilians on purpose" "Bucha was maybe a Ukrainian false-flag", and publicly accused me of being a Nazi supporter for donating to a Ukrainian medical charity.

no help from the rest of the union because he always had plenty of fucking Glen Greenwald, David Sacks, etc tweets to "prove there are questions, he's just asking questions and unconvinced by NATO CIA affiliated narratives"

    Tankies are poison.

  • Musk slanders innocent man who was falsely accused of assaulting cops.
  • Not very often - i'd bet under 5% of even handwritten instances in Japan, and feels like it would be an elderly person who wrote it (hardly narrows it down in jp tbf).

It is a common method in Taiwan though.

  • Apple is turning William Gibson’s Neuromancer into a TV series
  • Hope so! Shadowrun, which is basically Gibson's sprawl plus magic, set in the 2050s in original editions from around 1990 -

Later editions added wireless computer connections to keep up with present technology, but wifi just doesn't feel cyberpunk, so they later added some weird lore reason to go back to needing to plug in, for recent editions. Good change.

  • Recent AI failures are cracks in the magic
  • it's bizarre without context, but i recognise what they mean - Sony's headphones app suggests you send them photos of your ears so they can analyse the shape to improve the noise cancellation.

  • Why aren't more releases x265?
  • at least on a 4, this command will misleadingly return "disabled" even though your programs are able to use hwdec, because the h.265 decoder isn't part of the Pi 4's GPU, it's elsewhere.

  • Now that you have settled here on Lemmy. What is your impression of it?
  • One example that happens quite often is "look, Uyghurs are in forced labour camps in China", and the genetic fallacy response is "nooo that was reported by the New York Times which is an organ of western imperialism so it's all bullshit you're a westoid goon"
