Tesla is banned from driving schools because of new turn signals
  • Tesla’s reasoning for going away with a method universally used for signaling turn for decades is that it enables them to remove a physical part, the stalk, and it believes activating a turn signal will soon be unnecessary with the advent of self-driving.

Why the hell do billionaires keep laughing in our faces? I swear every time one of them or their companies opens their mouth, it's like they're making fun of us, the poor people.

"We care about your privacy" — (they don't) "a turn signal will soon be unnecessary" etc.

  • To be honest, we're dealing with corpos here, so a fully FOSS car is just a dream. But to be honest, if the software is not connected to any network in any way and doesn't control stuff that could kill me in case of a bug or whatnot, AND I have the right to flash whatever I want on there and tinker with it (since it doesn't control vital driving features, that should not be a problem), I can live with it. Only under these three conditions though.

  • Yes, but many times you can somehow rip the thing out of there. It's super difficult but I know like two people that managed (don't know which models, but they were new cars). I imagine in an electric car, the main head unit is probably more connected to the actual inner workings of the vehicle, making it impossible to just replace it, along with any of the electronics it's connected to.

  • I hate modern electric cars not because they don't have a gas guzzling engine, but because of the fact they're "modern" (proprietary software connected to the cellular network).

But of course, Trump only said this because all of his supporters drive gas guzzling behemoths of steel to compensate for something. And, of course, telling someone to rot in hell just because of a type of vehicle they like makes him seem like an incredibly mentally stable person...

  • Is it (still) worth trying to switch my family and friends from WhatsApp to Signal? (Read all of it, please.)
  • I see a lot of people in this thread talking about an EU regulation that will allow interoperability between messengers. I'm an EU citizen living here and this is, on one hand, amazing, because we can finally ditch proprietary apps and still keep in touch with people that still use them.

On the other hand, I'm concerned about the privacy implications of this. Converting people to Signal is pretty difficult in most cases, however, once they download it and start using it, Facebook gets no messages and metadata from our chats. If this interoperability comes into play, most people will see no reason in downloading Signal, since they can chat with people on Signal anyway. This would mean, that Facebook would still get the chats.

To me, this looks like a desperate way for Big Tech to keep profiting off user data even though better alternatives exist, while making it even more difficult to get people on these better platforms.

What do you guys think about this?

  • Many such cases
  • Every single time I recommend Signal to anyone, I get told, that WhatsApp already has E2EE and that there is no reason to switch because of that. Like, give me the proof the keys aren't sent to Facebook man.
