'It's inhumane.' Despite how hot it is, Tennessee renters don't have a right to air conditioning
  • I think we got lazy with our designs once centralized air was mainstreamed. The house my father grew up in the 1950s was designed like you mentioned. It would only allow light through during certain times of year/day with its overhanges and louvers and it jad more windows which allow more air flow....now according to him it was still a miserable place to live during the 1950s Texas summers....

  • Oncor Electric Delivery Charges $50?
  • I seem to remember having an Oncor delivery charge when I lived in the city. I'm on a municipal electric grid now so instead I have an ambiguous "Customer Charge" for $20. I also just discovered they add a "Round Up" charge to get it to the nearest dollar I'll be looking further into the legality of.

Thanks for making me look at my electric bill closer.

Emergency rooms refused to treat pregnant women, leaving one to miscarry in a lobby restroom
  • I can only speak for Texas, but those stand alone "emergency rooms" are more of a scam than anything else. This year we had one refuse to assist my father (who was alone at the time) while he was having a stoke, instead the staff instructed him to get back into his car and drive to an actual hospital...while still having a stroke!

It sounds like many of the places in Texas mentioned in the article are those "emergency rooms". We saw a hugh influx of those crappy places several years ago when they changed some rules regarding insurance. Its all a money grab.

  • Runner has denied breaking the law, saying in a 2023 interview with Walrus Magazine that "maybe it's not moral, maybe it's bullshit... But it doesn't mean it's fraud".

I think that defines fraud...not moral and bullshit, involving money.

  • I'm not up to date on the latest elephant measuring units but we're talking at lease 7.8million horse lengths away of that helps.

If you're looking for greater accuracy we can always convert that to badgers with a simple formula.

  • Americans may soon get warnings about ultra-processed foods: Report
  • Minimal change in relation to the damage ulta-processed foods are causing our population but at least its a step in the right direction. As someone who suffers from a Crohns (likely induced by a combination of processed food and over stress/work) I'm very happy we're finally taking a look at the food industry with more scepticism. I've done work inside food processing plants and it amazes me how they can justify manipulating our basic foods to ensure they are addictive and profitable at any cost.

Change does not happen overnight and hopefully this push to reevaluate our food practises will actually make it through the next election.

One day, I hope to be able to eat a food cooked by someone else without experiencing debilitating pain afterwards.
