Advice needed, son wants to learn how to program
  • If he is interested in game development, I recommend buying a couple Udemy courses on Unreal Engine development.

You will need to make sure your MacBook is powerful enough to run the unreal engine development IDE.

But if it is, he will be able. To quickly put something things together and see the results.

My son(9 years old at the time) put together a small game over a summer via a udemy course and unreal engine.

  • The intentional slowdown was directly related to battery life. They got sued over it. But if you put in a new battery, performance returns to previous levels.

Apple even tells you in your battery info settings page whether you are running with "Peak Performance Capability".

  • Elon is a giant fucking tool. But lets not act like the other billionaires or multi multi millionaire CEOs of the other companies aren't giant pieces of shit. They are. They are just smart enough to keep their mouth shut publicly.

  • Ummmm, if you are in the US, you don't have a damn clue what you speak of. Go do a roadtrip on non-teslas. Can it be done? Sure? But expect broken CCS1 stations all along the way. Expect that you will have to wait forever to charge. If you are replacing your ICE vehicle and need to travel outside of your local area, Tesla has been the only game in town. End of story.

Why do you think every major car company with significant electric vehicle sales is jumping to the Tesla connector? It is because the Tesla supercharger network is so much better than everything else.

Tesla isn't just their cars, it is their ecosystem. Tesla invested in a massive charging network, VW is next closest but CCS1 legit sucks. CCS2 would have been fine but the US in their infinite wisdom jumped on CCS1.

Now that companies are jumping on the tesla connector, I actually think we will see some real competition in short order which is good for everyone.

  • Other than blue bubbles, why do you use iPhone?
  • So generally I believe that Apple respects privacy more than google overall.

That doesn’t mean Apple is some privacy beacon.

But I have never had Apple randomly turn a setting on my phone on. Google got caught redhanded doing that. I had been using android for years until that incident.

Apple I buy my phone. Google I am the product.

  • How would Threads federate with Lemmy in the first place since they’re a microblogging thing and we’re not?
  • Why did google implement XMPP originally for Google Chat? They originally did federate with XMPP servers. But eventually, they decided that federating wasn't worth it. At the time they still used XMPP, they just refused to federate.

Why wouldn't you use ActivityPub as a protocol if it has been proven out and does 90% of what you need? Just because they use ActivityPub, I don't see them ever Federating in any meaningful way. Essentially, I think the protocol is well designed and Meta is just using it as their starting point with no reason to share any data with the fediverse.
