Why are posts that expressing support and wish towards Monero's proliferating adoption getting some downvote-bombings in here? Examples:
- https://monero.town/post/4160760 : "let's promote monero"; -10 karma
- https://monero.town/post/4041778 : "let's promote monero"; -9 karma
or this one:

Just started the skepticism thread, and there is an instant -1 downvote on that.
wtf is this? Are we getting brigaded by grudgeful bitfags? Is it the overly-sensitive leftist fediverse dwellers that can't stand the words like "shock-troops" or "the final solution"? What the hell.

- This thread is only for comments discussing the uncertainties, shortcomings, and concerns some may have about Monero.
- NOT the positive aspects of it.
- Discussion can relate to the technology itself or its economics.
- Talk about community and price is not wanted, but some discussion about it maybe allowed if it relates well.
- Be as respectful and nice as possible. This discussion has potential to be more emotionally charged as it may bring up issues that are extremely upsetting: many people are not only financially but emotionally invested in the ideas and tools around Monero. ---
How it works:
- Post your concerns about Monero in reply to this thread.
- If you can address these concerns, or add further details to them – reply to that comment. This will make it easily sort-able.
- Upvote the comments that are the most valid criticisms of it that have few or no real honest solutions/answers to them.
- The comment that mentions the biggest problems of Monero should have the most karma. ---

It has lots of useful listings, and then it also has this one: https://xmrbazaar.com/listing/P2qu/
😂Rofl, make monero fun to use again!
Their cop-out is saying, "TailsOS only includes packages from debian repos." So, I am guessing, before feather gets into TailsOS, it would need to be in debian stable. Can we get a debian maintainer for Feather?
Is there something we can do about getting Feather Wallet by default into TailsOS?
Feather's the best desktop wallet.
We're excited to share that a pull request has been made for the Full-Chain Membership Proofs (FCMP++) integration into Monero!
The pull request is a work-in-progress and will be improved upon and reviewed to ensure soundness of the implementation.
https://github.com/monero-project/monero/pull/9436
The entire reason for these being manageable without sudo permission, as a regular unprivileged user is that they don't modify the system, but only the installation in your home directory.
Yes, and therefore AppImages are great for use in TailsOS and Qubes-Whonix.
Yes I indeed ignored everything that came after when you referred to Monero as a scam.
Do you even know what XMR is, or are you a drive-by commenter?
Do you not understand allegory? Are you a literalist who cannot grasp nuance in internet banter?
force
Nah. I said nudge.
crypto scam
Nah.
Bounty increased to 2 XMR.
I bumped into two projects that do not yet use Monero for dono/payments yet.
The first one of them is a cool VPN that you can install and use right away inside debian: sudo apt install riseup-vpn -y
The second one is the new freenet project that aims to build distributed and uncensorable network.
Both of these projects SHOULD have been using Monero for donos/payments, ALREADY.
I think it is high time the Monero community shock troops go out there and apply nudging in these projects' community pages. Example: https://github.com/freenet/freenet-core/discussions/1189#discussioncomment-10382094
Do you follow the -dev and no-wallet-left-behind irc/matrix room discussions? Kayabanerve posts some good updates on the work being done. Last time I checked was that they were getting math proofs for the FCMP.
specify the network to connect to from the official build
That would very useful.
This issue requests building an AppImage installer from the Haveno repo. The AppImage should be built as part of the existing installer build process with ./gradlew packageInstallers. See package.g...
people have success
Which people? Probably technically-minded, and over-determined people, yes. But do we want only such people have access to Haveno? Absolutely not. People who are only able to burn TailsOS onto a USB should also be able to hop-onto using Haveno and contribute to Monero"s distributed liquidity.
you literally can
No I literally cannot! (maybe). AppImage model of running a program is exactly the same as running an exe file. Download, allow executable, and run. Most newcomers easily get disheartened when they read that they need to unzip a deb file or something.
AppImage is absolutely necessary for users of TailsOS and Qubes-Whonix.
Transact with it. Don’t hoard it
I do hoard it tho.

I show you how to isolate your feather wallet in an offline qube. Then, use your own monero node that runs in another qube via TCP port forwarding between the local qubes in QubesOS.
Full membership proofs will solve the issues, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. It can't arrive soon enough (provided that the maths and the code implementation are sound and secure, of course).
tails to keep electrum pre installed only by default.
I still can't comprehend the TailsOS developers for this decision. They are going all the way about hiding the trails of internet packages that are sent/received to the Tails operating system. But they are literally operating on the "clearnet" when it comes to the trails of internet money bits.

If this place going to be a larger Town hall (and eventually supercede the one on the user-hostile reddit servers) we need traditions that foster discussion in here.
Look, I also hate reddit, and it would be better if the Monero subreddit there was stale and inconsequential (see: https://monero.town/post/3725287 ), but the truth is its reverse: the Town is a near-ghost Town; which is a shame! Lemmy has a lot of potential for replacing reddit for long form written, indexed, searchable and structured (all as opposed to irc/matrix discussions) discussion medium. But we need to get people have sticking, lasting reasons to post here.
In order to make posters in here get into the habit, here are my suggestions:
-
Adopt "skepticism sundays," threads from /r/Monero. The Town should be the place to air out skeptic discussions on monero, we shouldn't need to br put up with reddit's automated filtering of posts and millionth captchas, just to post there.
-
Adopt "weekly discussion" threads from /r/Monero. Again, the /c/monero should foster posters to post more frequently in here, with threads like this.
---
We hate reddit. Reddit is simply unusable. New monero community members are unable to get their opinions heard and take part in the convo. It is up to us to have a haalthier discourse environment in the community.
A few days ago I created a reddit account just for "taking part in the discussion." However, here are the absolutely frustrating experiences I had:
-
You can create an account if you give reddit your email, but you CANNOT login via reddit's onion URL. Reddit will keep having "we had a problem," and "an error with the server occurred", after you have solved your 5th captcha with a screenful of bicycles to click on. No way to login anonymously.
-
You will have to login to your account via the clearnet URL of reddit. Damn.. But OK, everything for " contributing to the community, we are a diverse one, after all right? Make your voice heard". Alright. I login on clearnet. Reddit still gives me a red banner with some error message, like a sack of shit splashing on my desk, but lets me in this time. Good, finally "be a part of the conversation!". Start my first thread announcing my Turkish translation of monero.garden (see MoneroBahce.com). Hit send. Instantly reddit filters my post. My post and voice are not visible whatsoever.
---
Seriously, why are we taking reddit seriously as a discussion platform; and moreover, why are we making it the centrepiece of written, long-form Monero discussion? Why is that place have such a large role in taking a pulse of the Monero users?
Should we start a bounty? Current .deb requires the user to have sudo privileges and installs into root file directory. The first one is cumbersome for TailsOS users and the second one is cumbersome for QubesOS users.
An AppImage, in contrast, is a self-contained packaging for linux programs, that doesn't require sudo privs nor installation to root file dir. The user can simply double click on the AppImage and it will get Haveno working instantly.
Currently, Haveno/-Reto doesn't have an AppImage release. How do we get one? I am not a programmer, so I can't cook one for them. So, would opening a bounty on bounties.monero.social be helpful?
Downloaded the release 6.0.0-beta1 pre-release version of AppImage to my Qubes-Whonix. Then, created an encrypted archive (18 MB) of my android simplex using simplex app, and got my download link for migration to the desktop app. On the desktop appimage, I pasted this link, and it has been "DOWNLOADING LINK DETAILS" for 15 minutes now. Is this feature working yet, or am I waiting in vain?
