Lemmiers that own a non-Tesla EV with a charging station at home, how's your experience been?
  • Not in Seattle (phoenix az area) but we have an ioniq and a ChargePoint L2 ccs charger on a 50A circuit. Works like a charm - plug it in and forget about it. Zero issues, just over a year. I had the 240V/50A circuit already in the garage, and wired it myself (carefully... ;) )

  • 170-mile cargo ebike aims to make hauling affordable
  • I have an Aventon abound cargo bike, and I'm about 220 riding weight. On 2nd level assist (of four levels) which is where I ride 99% of the time, I get about 30 miles. Fairly flat terrain. I also ride on the fast side and I'm in decent mountain biking shape - that definitely matters, I almost never touch the throttle.

Most cargo I've had on it was around 150lb. No idea what the range reduction would have been but the bike handled just fine.

  • 170-mile cargo ebike aims to make hauling affordable
  • My understanding is that range estimates are based on 150lb rider, flat ground, lowest assist setting. Ebike standards are pretty Wild West right now though, so that's worth a fart in a hurricane.

  • Etnnic's FST Evo E-Trike Is Here To Drop Its Off-Road Magic on You, It Can Fly!
  • I'm not sure who this is for - if someone is moving to a trike because they have balance issues, they're not gonna be riding it on single track.

I guess it's just an alternative to a regular eMTB, just a different off-road toy. Nothing wrong with that. :) in a way it reminds me of the ski sled thing you sit on like a bike.

  • Ballots damaged after USPS mailbox lit on fire in Phoenix: Police
  • The most interesting part of the article

"One of the things that we have done in my office, for the drop boxes across the counties, is make sure that they have fire suppression equipment inside of those drop boxes," Fontes said during a Zoom call with election officials on Thursday. "Unfortunately, the United States Postal Service doesn't have that."

  • You Probably Need to Replace Your Helmet
  • Saw a couple people on lectric ebikes today, each with a small kid on the back. None of them were wearing helmets. Guess that's the life hack... never need to replace your helmet if you don't wear one.

I replaced mine earlier this year, got a POC Tectal MIPS. Really like it.

  • Bike Manufacturers Are Making Bikes Less Repairable
  • I have the same GX groupset on two bikes - both 12 speed. One is AXS, the other is cable. The AXS shifter never misses. Ever. Can't say that about the cable, which I've adjusted many times. I think it's a great upgrade.

It's also something I can work on, repair, etc. I don't think that's going to be the case with the upcoming setup where the gearing is colocated with the motor, and there's no derailleur. That's going to be a shop (or probably even manufacturer) repair.

In first ever documented case, Talaria electric dirt bike goes up in flames in US

    https://electrek.co/2024/09/07/in-first-ever-documented-case-talaria-electric-dirt-bike-goes-up-in-flames-in-us/

TL;DR - shitty battery goes FWOOOF

"Hicks explained that Talaria normally only uses a well-respected battery maker known as Greenway Batteries. ... However, due to a “clerical error made by the Talaria team,” some Talaria MX5 electric motorbikes that were shipped to the US included a battery produced by another supplier known as Scud."
