Pro Tour Modern Horizons 3 Round 14 Disqualification
  • Yeah this seems like an easy mistake to make. In fact, they were on coverage, which means they would have had a judge sitting there at the table with them, so the judge even missed it when it happened.

  • Will House Democrats defend the speaker against unseating?
  • He's (surprisingly) demonstrated a willingness to actually get some things done. I never would have thought that he would given all we were hearing about him before, but he's not been a complete roadblock to governing, so the question is do Dems take this small concession that he's actually willing to govern or take a chance that the Republicans put someone in there who is more hostile and prone to standoffs.

I tend to agree, though. Politically, it doesn't make a lot of sense for Dems to support him, or for Republicans to side with Democrats, which their base will absolutely loathe, so if he gets put on the chopping block it's likely that no one will save him on either side.

  • The Fallout show's been a pleasant surprise
  • I never played the games but was able to pick up enough through context clues about what each group is all about and generally what's going on. I do have lots of questions about the specifics of each group, but I'm hoping that in future episodes (I am only a few episodes in) and seasons they flesh things out a bit more to fill in some of the more mysterious aspects of the show.

  • Meet a Missouri dad who went from a ‘full-on bigot’ to fighting bathroom bans on behalf of his 16-year-old daughter: ‘When it was my child, it just flipped a switch’
  • I'm not advocating for praising him, but everyone is vilifying him for coming around to a different point of view. He's growing as a person. Maybe not in the altruistic way that you'd like, but it's still growth. If we stay up on our high horses insisting everyone do the right thing just because it's the right thing and for no other reason then we're going to be waiting a very, very long time for change.

Take the fucking win and move on.

  • Meet a Missouri dad who went from a ‘full-on bigot’ to fighting bathroom bans on behalf of his 16-year-old daughter: ‘When it was my child, it just flipped a switch’
  • If your first instinct is to condemn this man for what he used to believe I would urge you to think about how we would ever go about affecting change without people like this who believe one thing, then see the error of their ways and change their mind. Sometimes a hypocrite is nothing more than a man in the process of changing.

  • Who is your favorite MTG artist?
  • Jeff Laubenstein is awesome and has done some great alters for me. He's awesome to talk to at events.

Dan Frazier will always hold a special place in my heart because I wrote to him and a bunch of other artists when I was 10 or 11 and he was the only one to write back and answer my questions.

Victor Adame-Minguez did the art for Brutal Expulsion, which is a card that holds special significance for me.

Howard Lyon does some really phenomenal work and he's another person who is really great to talk to at events.

Steve Argyle is an absolute madman when it comes to alters and sketches and he's another really awesome dude to talk to at events. He's so soft spoken and his artwork is so loud and I absolutely love that dichotomy.

  • Favorite Charities?
  • My local food bank is my favorite place to donate and volunteer at. My friend also works as a CASA so I donate to them as well (link is for the national organization, but they're may be a local group you can donate to directly). Other than that, look around your area for local nonprofits. There are lots of local charities that work with kids, help solve local problems, etc that can always use some financial help. There are several organizations that you can go to if you want to vet and check on the charities to make sure they're legit.

  • Weekly “What are you playing” Thread || Week of December 3rd
  • I just got the jingle jam collection and started playing Godfall. Straight forward smack-em-with-a-sword game but lots of fun so far. Kinda reminds me of kingdoms of amalur. Hoping to try out a few more games from the collection as well as I've heard good things about quite a few of them.

  • I'm looking for a library manager for video
  • I use Plex. I have different libraries set up for movies, TV shows, educational videos, home videos, and during the pandemic it was great because my kids were doing dance class remotely, so I even set up a library so they could have all their dance class videos in one spot to practice their routines. I also organize my family photos there as well, which works out great to have those and the home videos all in one place. I can even give family members access to various libraries if they want to view family photos/videos, which has been handy as well.

Lots of people swear by jellyfin, but I've had so much success with Plex that I haven't bothered to check it out. It's probably easy enough to get a server for each up and running and see which you prefer.

  • NYCC: Alex Kurtzman Gives ‘Section 31’ And ‘Academy’ Updates, Teases “Exciting” New Star Trek Projects
  • I agree. I like the idea that there's a trek for everyone. I love strange new worlds, but (initially) wasn't really into the idea of lower decks, and that's ok because I think it gives everyone something different to look forward to and avoid the problem of oversaturation. You can choose the shows you like and miss the ones you don't.

That being said, I'm glad they did the crossover episode with lower decks because it made me give the show a shot and I ended up really liking it.
