Jefferson Davis birthday is a state holiday in Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi.
  • So only Alabama actually observes it. It's the only one that closes state offices. Mississippi combines it with Memorial Day so technically there is a day off and they are diluting Memorial Day. I'm a Floridian and have never heard of his birthday being observed or mentioned. In contrast I actually get Juneteenth off.

  • The hidden costs of using an electric bike
  • It's just a humor article. Not sure if you read past the headline but the whole article is about the positives of an e-bike. • Georgia Senate passes bill banning American Library Association from state libraries
  • I'll never understand trying juveniles as adults. Then what is the point of even having juvenile courts? There is a 13 year oldkid in Florida who killed his mother and is being tried as an adult. I understand it was a terrible crime but treating a middle school kid with the brain/reasoning ability of a 13 year old child as an adult is wrong.

  • "I Don't Know If Most People Even Know What Party Is In The Senate Majority"
  • The US Congress is legislative branch. Congress is divided into the Senate and House of Representatives.

What makes it confusing is that representatives are also referred to as "congressman" but senators are onky called senators. Despite both being members of Congress.

  • What does "next Saturday" mean
  • I find that people generally use "this" and "next" correctly but it depends how the week is being perceived. I think it might depend what day of the week it currently is. Like if it's Sunday, someone might say "next Saturday" to mean the first coming Saturday. But if someone says "next Saturday" on a Thursday they definitely mean the second coming Saturday.
