Diabetes 'cured' for first time in stem cell study - but there's a less expensive alternative

This fucking article.

> But Dr Eric Westman, who posts reaction videos to medical news stories on his YouTube channel, argues that novel therapies such as this miss the point, which is that he sees patients’ diabetes go into remission all the time. And it doesn’t take advanced stem cell therapy to “cure” the condition.

Ah ok so if cancer goes into remission, then it's all good. No need to "cure" it. FUCK OFF

> Dr Eric Westman, who produces reaction videos on YouTube for his 200K subscribers, recognizes the achievement of the researchers but argues we already know how to “cure” type 2 diabetes. And to do so we don’t need expensive, high-tech therapies.

> He emphasizes the power of dietary changes for their ability to reduce, or even eliminate, symptoms of diabetes. Diabetes UK’s top 10 tips for dietary management of diabetes include choosing healthier carbohydrates and cutting down on sugar.

> “Remission of diabetes is one year of no evidence of diabetes. I see that routinely. Cure of diabetes is defined as five years with no evidence of diabetes, and I see that as well. These are standard definitions used.”

> “So this isn’t the first time that diabetes has been ‘cured’,” he says. But it is the first time pancreatic function has been restored in such a way that allows patients to eat whatever they want.

Ok this "doctor" (I hesistate to call him that) needs his license revoked. He's essentially going head-first into victim blaming and personal responsibility bullshit. Everyone in the fucking world knows that a healthy diet and exercise is good, but that is a million times harder when you already have a condition like diabetes. A fucking cure is a good thing, not just some cheat code that allows people to "eat whatever they want" (which btw after being cured of diabetes they should have the fucking right to do).

Once again another example of China does amazing thing, and Westoids respond with "but at what cost?" Honestly I hope other countries copy the shit out of this and lower the cost.

Good ways of meeting new people?
  • I assume you're a cis-het guy? Not gonna lie it's gonna be tough going to events solo, as a single guy automatically puts many people's defenses up. Also tbh you're not gonna find great advice on hexbear when it comes to specifically male loneliness issues. It might be better to find a site/forum that specifically caters to that.

  • Good ways of meeting new people?
  • probably more indicative of an underlying issue where they aren't pursuing self-actualization by cultivating special interests or hobby skills.

Uhh what's up with this Jordan Peterson BS you're spouting? This sounds like some "clean your room" shit.

  • Good ways of meeting new people?
  • I just don’t understand why these people have no interests already? Like why ask people for ideas in what to do who doesn’t know what hiking is? I recommend meetup.com though for sure, there’s also bumble bf and some other apps if ou search that one

But yeah choose thing you like to do—-> apply public/outside/other humans and you can be healthy then

"I just don't understand why people find it hard to get a job and a car and a house? Just go out there, find one, and save money. It's sO eAsY!"

With all due respect, get the fuck out with that shit. This is supposed to be a place of support, not judgmental fucking bullshit like you're spouting.

Are the ones who are constantly telling you to read the super boring intricacies of capital vol 1... makes you think !think-about-it

    On Contradiction
  • They pretty much tell on themselves here: https://international.dsausa.org/statements/on-russias-invasion-of-ukraine/

They "condemn" Russia. What a joke... No wonder the Global South doesn't give a shit about the Democratic Sheepherders of America. I didn't see anything on their site supporting Venezuela, China, DPRK, etc. I only see milquetoast "we stand with the 'people' of Venezuela, Cuba, etc." They're too chicken to actually support any of the governments in AES countries. They only support "the people" of those countries. What a fucking cop-out scaredy-cat fucking response. That's like when libs/chuds say "I hate the goverment but support the people!" fucking bullshit. Fuck the DSA. Actually, after seeing those "statements" I'm going to actively tell people I know to stay the fuck away from DSA. They're waaay worse than I thought.

  • On Contradiction
  • The tendency in DSA is uncritical support of anti-imperialist state or militant action, especially within the international committee which puts out the vast majority of comms on these topics. The "Robin" in this meme, putting forward any formal critique (a fundamental and essential component of practicing Marxism) is very much the minority position.

I'll believe it when I see it

  • So Iran is the only country in the world that legalized the sale of kidneys, and as a result, they don't have any wait lists for kidneys. Regardless of how you feel about it, it's an interesting case study (from an anti-imperialist nation to boot) about the effectiveness of the system: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kidney_trade_in_Iran

  • Disgraced cyclist whines about the lack of roid rage in cycling
  • I don't really care about steroid use in sports. It's just not fair that certain people get genetic advantages, so if you want to make up for not being tall or having a certain body build, go for it. We allow it in other areas of life, so why not in sports. The whole "it's unfair whaaaa" thing sounds like some moralistic capitalist bullshit anyways. They always use their advantages, but lecture the rest of us to "play fair"

  • We are running out of hyperboles
  • My dad looked way better at 45 than this guy and all he did was cycle a lot

Sure maybe, but should there also be a chance for people who made a lot of mistakes in their lives (bad diet, smoking, lack of exercise, poor sleep) to change that? Should we really condemn people for "bad choices," especially when a lot of these "choices" are the result of environmental factors like where you grew up and what people you were surrounded by (like smoking/drinking culture in blue collar jobs because they can be brutal)? Not everyone is fortunate to live a fully organic, vegan, biking lifestyle. I like to think of anti-aging research as akin to the poverty alleviation that AES countries are doing right now. Of course it goes without saying that it should be freely available to all and not just the rich.

  • We are running out of hyperboles
  • Especially since a few comrades of mine would be dead already without medication.

Nah bro just let them die bro.... It'll be more "beautiful" that way 🤣

I swear the whole "leave nature alone it's more beautiful if we all die without medical technology" is some real western leftist BS.
