Smartphone manufacturers still want to make foldables a thing
  • as with all technology though, as they become more accessible with newer models being made and other companies making foldables, the price for the same kind of quality product we have today will inevitably be less in the future.

this is already happening with cpu performance, display quality, etc.. it's finally very affordable to get a 120 hz phone with a fantastic display and snappy processor, specifically thinking of something like the Galaxy A54 or Pixel 8 (on a sale)

a general rule i use regarding technology purchasing is that newest featured top of the line products are best left to rich people who can afford it, as badly as i might want it.

this goes for cars, phones, etc.. one benefit to this is that it gives the product time to become not just more affordable, but better quality as well.

the earliest foldables cracked at their fold points, but Samsungs newest fold phone survived JerryRigEverythings bend test which is impressive.

in a few more years, this quality will surely be available at sub 1000 dollar prices, containing the most modern hardware which will be even better than is available now.

  • it's very likely that would be the case assuming that we learn that some of our traditions were mistaken, likely based on limited information. (or assuming that the definition didn't change somehow)

i want clarify that it's not so much that they're "no longer liberal", because if they were following more or less the same defined liberal ideals back in 2000, they certainly were liberals. it's moreso along the line of thought that "what the liberals back then thought was outdated".

  • other areas of Lemmy have been alright for me.

here however, they just repeat the brain rot "Enlightened Centrist" meme with absolutely 0 arguments being made. very lame and simple minded "politics" being done over here!

  • conservatism is liberal progression into an enforced tradition.

liberalism is the progression either out of old conservative traditions, or into new ones. if traditionally enforced, this becomes conservative :O

but tell me again about how you're a "conservative" or a "liberal"?

    feeling "enlightened" yet?

edit: downvotes with no replies eh? too enlightening i guess

  • that has nothing to do with the ideology of centrism itself and would be ridiculous to even pretend so.

it has to do with the complexity of the situation, and more specifically for everyone supporting Israel, having to do with maintaining country relations moreso than the edit: humanist ideals unfortunately.

  • ah yes, and i haven't found any actually independent thinking liberals and conservatives. just people who are checking their favourite left/right wing political commentators twitter to regurgitate what they say.

  • any leftist progression which is enforced into society is suddenly known as a conservative tradition, while old conservative traditions that change are known as liberal progressions.

this is why i call myself a "centrist". some of my ideals are in a progression from what currently is(liberal), while some are in enforcing a tradition (or more often, a law), from something that isn't yet. (conservative)

from my experience, so many self proclaimed right wing and left wing people are so polar among each other when discussing ideas which are not their typical liberal/conservative talking points, whereas centrists are usually the science based kind of people who are open minded to what both the left or the right are arguing and trying their best to come to the most mutual agreement humanly possible.

people saying centrists don't exist or whatever other completely out of this world bullshit they say is the EXACT same thing as saying "leftists will ALWAYS be looking for something else to progress or change" or "rightists will ALWAYS be looking for another thing to turn into a tradition".

it pretends that there is no ideals or end goals to a centrist, so there must not be any goals or ideals to liberalism or conservatism either! hey guys, what is even politics again?!

if you can justify anything such as why random murder shouldn't be allowed, you are suddenly EXTREMELY right wing to a guy who loves killing people, and you're EXTREMELY left wing to a society where random killing was previously traditionally (conservatively) allowed.

this leaves the democratically favourable position of not wanting random murder to be allowed, somewhere in the center, just like every other democratic ideal i would strongly argue.

just look at something like free thought.

just about every reasonable person would say we should have the freedom to think whatever we want to in our heads. where are all these people? on the left? the right?

they're everywhere and nowhere. they ARE the center..

this idea of the "path of least resistance" perception of centrists pisses me the fuck off, because funnily enough i'm the most politically confronting and resistive person i've ever met in person and largely online, purely due to centrism believe it or not.

  • i use Quad9 in everything which has uBlock Origin as an available extension, otherwise NextDNS with OISD and/or Hagezi Normal. (hagezi pro broke some images for me which were not ads or trackers)

for a quick and easy set and forget ad and tracker blocking DNS, definitely Adguard. i set this DNS on my parents devices like phone and firesticks. i set the router DNS to Quad9 to serve as a phising and malware blocker for anyone on the network.

there is a Roku in my household which can't have DNS specifically changed, so i have to use NextDNS for my router (Adguard would work too), though ideally i just want Quad9 in most places due to the Swiss law enforced privacy policy which promises no personally identifiable logging

  • i've been raised as a Gen Z to learn "first nations", though aboriginal (from the root word aborigine) also means the exact same thing, so i personally don't comprehend how someone can find offense in using that word.

maybe they are used to seeing aboriginals to describe aussi natives? still, it essentially means "first of the region", or in other words, "first of the nation".
