  • I sold mine and don't plan on getting another for the foreseeable.

I like my roadie and I like my MTB, having a hybrid was unnecessary and frustrating because it had some of the limitations of both formats.

That said, they might be ideal for some people. Kind of an all rounder that's a bit more serious than a commuter.

  • Yeah it's no problem here in my city in West Aus, we never installed any bike lanes in the first place so no need to rip them out!

In all seriousness though, there is some cycling infrastructure but it's really very limited. No "network" per se.

For example, there's only one section of dedicated bike path in the whole city. Dedicated as in segregated from pedestrians and other traffic. It runs for about 500m. Cyclists need to cross about 5 side roads and the bike path is terminated before and after them. It's an absurdity really.

Regardless, when it was installed it was met with such vehement and vociferous outcry that the local government dare not install any additional infrastructure.

  • No it's not. A general rabble isn't going to achieve anything because they're not asking for anything. Morale is low and participants are easily disuaded because they can see they're not achieving anything. No one wants to risk physical harm or incarceration for a cause that just doesn't really exist.

  • Yeah that's a really good point.

The general consensus seems to be that doing something is better than doing nothing.

I really disagree though. After a few failed attempts people will lose heart and get in line.

There seems to be half a dozen different protests now too, all on different days with no cohesive objectives

  • I dint think these general "buy nothing" days are the right way to go. Whatever people don't buy on the day will just be bought the next day.

I think it would be difficult to achieve anything more than a standard deviation in daily sales, as in its not really noticeable.

  • Yeah.

Organic produce is often inferior, which kinda stands to reason because all the tOxIc ChEmIcALs are added to improve the product.

I mean, it's obvious that adding fertilizer (phosphate) is going to produce bigger plumper tastier fruit and vegetables?

I buy organic cauliflower not because I prefer organic but because it's all my local green grocer sells. It always has these little green caterpillars. I don't let that bother me but I have noticed that it doesn't seem to keep quite as long. Whether that's because the caterpillars munching bits of it makes it deteriorate quicker, or it takes longer to get from the farm to me, or it's a different variety, I really don't know. It's def not objectively as good as the non-organic version.

As an aside, Bananas (like most fruit and veg) has been heavily domesticated by humans and the original from the pleistocene was pretty awful from the sounds of it with much less edible flesh and much bigger and harder seeds.

  • I didn't say that's what you said, I asked you whether it's what you really believe?

Suggesting that this is RFK's "best idea" implies that this set up addresses the problem of drug abuse better than existing established rehab programs.
