Both Burton and Elfman consider Edward Scissorhands their most personal and favorite work.
That's cool.

Talk about an unexpected gift, eh?
I love how they left a few little mistakes in, and somehow that improves the overall effect.
Not that anyone asked but I just got the tenth season dvds from ebay, ripped them and watched this episode this weekend. This episode has a lot of laugh out loud moments, including this one.
Invidious link too:

Just posted today, recorded last year.
> Last fall at the Henry Miller Library in Big Sur our show was rained out. The sky cleared just as dusk fell & someone said: let’s go into the forest. So in a grove of redwoods we played a few songs for the hermit thrushes and spotted owls. Thank you Mark Satterthwaite & crew for filming it.
I loved them before and I love them now.
I'm just the consumer so I don't know for sure, but I believe these are cases of the company sells on both platforms but fulfills all orders via Amazon, which (a) defeats my purpose of shopping on eBay and (b) is against eBay's rules, I believe.
If you're of a certain age, you might have watched this in school, as I did. The theme song will never leave my head, no matter how I've tried to purge it.

Haha. Is a book knife a real thing?
Thanks for the link - I visited that town last year and was quite surprised how nice that amphitheater is.
Church and state should be kept separate. We're seeing wayyy too much mixing of the two lately. But still, the best solution is the one that works best for everyone, not just the majority. In this case, that would seem to be allowing everyone equal and paid access to the facility or nobody gets access.
History and tradition should obviously not be the entirety of the decision making process and recent events should outweigh things that happened 100 years ago. Otherwise, we block all progress and if that were a good idea, we might still have slavery.
The idealist in me would hope that these people could work something out without getting lawyers involved.
All of this IMO, clearly.
Hi author! I'm Dad. :)
Thanks for joining the conversation. I thought it too much to hope you'd be on Lemmy but glad you are! Thanks for adding those bits about https, but I was saddened to see that 90% of the conversation around this centered on that one side topic.
I've only read the TOC for your book so far but it seems very much what we need to see more people adopt self-hosting so thank you very much for putting in the time and effort!
Aha, there we go. I was trying to put "end to end encrypted" and "Google" together and it just would not compute.

I did too, just within TMobile in the US, using the s*** word. Went through just fine.
Is that the colorful kind? (I can't look it up right now)
Not that anyone asked, but my greatest frustration lately is when I order something on ebay and it shows up in an Amazon box. F THOSE COMPANIES
Yeah, you all get all the nice things we don't in the US.
I'm curious about this. Do either of you run a custom dns for blocking ads, like adguard or pihole?
Did you turn off a bunch of stuff when you first got the PC?
Do you have corporate policies being applied in your registry?
Oh I have a VPN so no worries

> As Guided by Voices’ resident mad scientist, Robert Pollard churns out songs at a rate that makes the speed of light seem slothful. From homegrown four-track fuzzfests to comparatively high-tech stints with famous producers, GBV’s dozens-strong discography defies easy listening. With Pollard as the only constant, the Dayton band toiled in ‘80s indie rock’s sub-basement obscurity before emerging as the surrealist kings of lo-fi land in the mid ‘90s.
> Today, they’re a scrappy but stalwart alt-rock institution. At each album’s core are Pollard’s delirious dream-logic lyrics and miniaturist mania, with songs sometimes ending after a single verse. “I’ve tried to write epics, but I’ve got a short attention span from working with kids for 14 years,” the former schoolteacher told SPIN.
It's Propeller, right? The best GBV album? Yeah, OK.

Disclaimer: I'm no expert on this.
I realized recently there are two common types of Self Hosters here.
-
I work in IT and host some services for my employer so we don't have to rely on the big tech companies, for economic or other reasons.
-
I self host some services at home or on a VPS, as a hobby or for other reasons, but nobody pays me to do that.
The answers people provide seem to vary greatly based on whether the commenter is in the #1 or #2 camp. I myself have gotten answers along the lines of, "why aren't you acting more like a paid IT person?" and it's a little off-putting.
How to resolve this? Could we refer to one group or the other differently?
Maybe I'm making a bigger deal out of this than is warranted and I'm the only one confused?
If nothing else, I will call out my hobby status from now on when posting/commenting here.
Edited to add: TIL. I'll use these terms carefully in the future. Thanks!
