  • 100k isn't rich. Disabled people face incredible costs as insurance companies and medical care in general gets more and more expensive for less and less, and sometimes out of pocket they have to pay tens of thousands for a vital assistive device. The chances they'll get there are frankly nearly impossible - as usual, the answer is that if one person may exploit the system but hundreds of thousands or more will have a very difficult life eased, the ethical thing is to let it go or at least engage an investigation, not a blanket ban.

  • You aren't wrong, that's all true. But also there are a lot of reasons to want to "free your TV". The literal answer is that rooting your TV is difficult or impossible depending on the brand, and the technically true answer is that you can at least get away from the horrible manipulative interface pushed on you by the manufacturer without doing anything difficult. Better than nothing, IMO.

  • Why has no one mentioned Projectivy?

It's a regular app, doesn't require root (though it benefits from it). It's free unless you want complicated parental controls (I pay for it but otherwise have no relation to it).

I have a Bravia TV, and with it I no longer have ads, I can change exactly what apps show up, including hiding Sony apps, and can totally customize the whole window.

Finding it was a huge relief for me, as there's no point setting up parental controls for a small child when ads showing horror products show up anyway.

    Hope that helps.

  • The cost to dispose or recycle should be paid by the companies that produce the product. Products would waste less material and recycling would be profitable for recycling companies doing a public service.

Yes, companies will want to make customers eat that cost. I don't know if there is a legislative solution for that or what.

  • You're very young to have decided that a partner will never happen for you.

The very best thing you can do is socialize without expectation of partnership and learn to have fun and enjoy flirting with people without the intention of following through. When you can get with a bunch of friends, laugh and flirt and go home alone and feel good about it, like appreciate the joy inherent in those moments without ruining it by pining for more... you will be doing yourself two favors.

One, you'll stop feeling like not dating is celibacy - it's just where you're at.

Two, you'll become much more attractive to potential partners, and you'll find folks won't care so much about your looks. The vibe will be way different, for real, because of the self-confidence inherent in enjoying your life without needing anything from anyone else.

Bonus - You might find, by flirting with people you have no intention of sleeping with, that your tastes expand. Just don't tell a woman you're not following through because she doesn't meet your physical standards, that will get you in a dating blacklist in no time.

  • It's ironic that capitalism is missing out on more efficient workers who could maximize production and profit because of this. Who knows where we would be if we actually helped people pursue their goals regardless of current income?

  • Skydiving, once, in my 20s. Not sure if the chute was on wrong, being slightly over the weight limit was a factor, or if it was just genetics, but when the chute opened, the jerk caused a loud enough pop that my instructor asked if I was okay.

I lied of course, the adrenaline kept me from knowing the deal, anyway.

The first time I threw my back out, after, it was from picking up a piece of paper. These days, when I have the least pain I can still tell my back muscles are as tight as a garage spring.

I had never known a moment of back pain before that day, and I don't know what it's like to walk a mile without back pain now.

  • This is the sort of thing a person rattles off on gut alone. "Artistic freedom" is not legally defensible - if your work isn't entirely unique, you need to fit within Fair Use in the US.

If you're in many places outside the US (like Japan) there is NO Fair Use carve-out to copyright (which is why Palworld may be more fucked than if they were a US company.)

  • I can't believe in 2023 we are still in the position of having the only convenient capable way of incapacitating someone from a distance being to destroy their body.

I'm not trying to sound super anti-gun, it just seems like it's not the right tool for the job most of the time, and it sucks that that is the choice we have to make.
