Windows is hell, i need to do something
  • Hey OP, I just installed Fedora KDE as dual boot on my desktop (slowly transitioning from Windows) and I can vouch for what the person above you is saying. Good luck, and feel free to ask anything. I’m no expert, but I can at least listen.

  • Mexico is heading towards its most violent election ever, with 30 candidates murdered, 77 threatened and 11 kidnapped
  • Again, it’s not only the current administration, it’s been happening for decades already. They’re not (all) working for the cartels, but with them. If AMLO (initials of the current prez, for anyone reading) is an asset or not is in anyones judgement, I find it more of a “teamwork kinda thing, but what I find most appalling is his shamelesness of this interaction, hell, he even doubled down on it in one of his morning speeches after media called him out on it.

  • Mexico is heading towards its most violent election ever, with 30 candidates murdered, 77 threatened and 11 kidnapped
  • Read the immediate next sentence of the one you’re quoting me. But to be more direct: about ~95% of the gov? So, PAN, PRI, and Morena.

Illustrate me with some reliable sources then. I don’t see any “direction” those sources you mention have taken, what do you mean?

  • Mexico is heading towards its most violent election ever, with 30 candidates murdered, 77 threatened and 11 kidnapped
  • I agree on your comment about the current situation. It is very violent. Either it’s getting more reporting than previous years or it actually is as bad as it seems. But I might be misunderstanding the tone of your comment here, it reads very apologetic of the current government to me:

It really sounds like another article trying to tie our president with the organized crime, something that has been shyly thrown at the average citizen several times now.

Maybe because it’s true? As another mexican, I have absolutely no doubt the government is working with cartels in different regions in exchange of more control, both ways. And I’m not saying it happened just in this administration, it’s been happening for at least 20 years.

My take is that some regions where the government wants bigger control are currently controlled by rival cartels where the government currently has bigger control in.

I also find it a bit cynical so write that this fact is being “shyly thrown around”, why are there so many articles about it then? The current president –the face of the government– had been seen multiple times visiting el Chapo’s mom. Very shy of him.

  • Mexico's president says he won't fight drug cartels on US orders, calls it a 'Mexico First' policy
  • How is this “fight” being represented? I ask, because in more than one occasion he’s been seen being close to El Chapo’s mother, do you mean he’s “fighting” cartels by negotiating with them? Or does this fight mean rather things like shouting “more hugs, less shootings”, or his menacing “I’ll tell on you to your mothers!” to the cartels?

  • Remote access possible via HomeKit integration?
  • Update: It works! I get all notifications from my sensors and it's working great. Thanks everyone!

    For future reference, my setup:

HASS OS running on an SSD (Kingston A2000 250GB) connected to a RaspberryPi 4B 4GB

And an addendum: If anyone is having trouble migrating their Zigbee devices from Homebridge to Home Assistant, what helped me was unplugging all previous zigbee router devices before setting up the new Zigbee network, otherwise the coordinator wouldn't start or some weird issue would pop up during setup. After disconnecting the router devices I was able to start the coordinator, and add the routers again to the new network.

  • Remote access possible via HomeKit integration?
  • Ah, good to know someone with a similar setup! I have some Homepod minis, so siri does get some usage. Did you by chance also migrated from Homebridge to HA? I would have some questions about how to migrate zigbee devices from homebridge to HA… 😅

  • Remote access possible via HomeKit integration?
  • I am aware of the service, but I don’t want yet another subscription if I can avoid it. I am happy to donate to the HA team, but I’m slowly but surely moving away from subs. I will eventually get rid of HomeKit and in general the whole Apple ecosystem if I can sufficiently satisfy my needs with self-hosted services.

  • Remote access possible via HomeKit integration?
  • Hey, thanks for the hint! I’ll need to read more about FHEM since it’s the first time I hear about it (how do people even find out about it?), there’s a lot going on for me here, but it’s nice to see there are more options out there.

  • Remote access possible via HomeKit integration?
  • Hey, thanks! I’m glad to hear this. I do have both of the devices you mentioned that function as home hubs.

I would like to add other questions, if I may: Do you have a similar setup, or do you know if there is any noticeable delay to update the status of the devices in the Home app? This isn’t a dealbreaker, but would like to be aware of the repercussions of such topology.

  • Remote access possible via HomeKit integration?

    Dear lemmy community,

I am currently in the process of migrating my current Homebridge setup to HA OS on a Pi4 4GB, and I’m still discovering and trying to understand its possibilities and limitations.

I’m currently wondering how I would be able to access my devices remotely. I have a FritzBox Router, setup with WireGuard VPN to access my network remotely. I have been able to access HA this way before, but I’d like to be able to “see” my devices without having to turn on the VPN every time.

An idea occurred to me, although not sure if it would work: would I be able to see or get updates from my devices (even if limitedly) through the HomeKit integration in HA?

I am aware this potential solution would mean my devices connecting to apple’s cloud, but that’s a tradeoff I’m willing to take for the many benefits HA brings to the table (in my case, energy consumption logging).

  • I noticed the same on my Series 4, which, as old as it is, used to last me through the day with about 30% left by 8pm. I had to turn on the low power mode yesterday at noon with around 60% and then it died by 7pm
