"We liberated Europe from fascism, but they will never forgive us for it" - said some famed Anglo-American field marshal
  • Ah yes, the country that lost ~180,000 troops in the European theater and didn't actually have any battles on it's home turf did much more to defeat the Nazis than the continent-spanning nation that lost about 9,000,000 troops (not counting ~18,000,000 civilians).

For reference, in all it's wars combined over 200 years, America has lost just over 1,000,000 troops in total.

  • Wait, protests aren’t productive??
  • No, you have to compromise. We demand you launch airstrikes only between 10am - 6pm in areas at least 100m from designated school zones, launched by pilots who have at least 6 hours of training in identifying targets and minimizing civilian casualties. Then it's not a war crime, it's just sparkling neoimperialism

  • Wait, protests aren’t productive??
  • Goddamn this is some thoughtless drivel. I hope our boy Gabriel enjoys his tenure at The Atlantic

If all we do is make physical noise every now and then, we can’t really accomplish anything besides successfully antagonizing the other side.

Right now, we’re pushing people away. We’re pushing away the very people who have the means and the power to establish actual change.

What I saw at that protest a month ago was the perpetuation of polarization. Driving the gap between people even further. The same concept that the corruption in this country thrives on.

As time goes on, there just seems to be more and more polarization and less and less actual unity. We keep villainizing each other and genuinely believe that doing so will fix real problems or change something.

    That’s not how it works.

If we want genuine change, we have to be willing to compromise and meet with the opposition on the other side.

  • Help I Need An Adult (Car/Money Problems)
  • I've done home mechanic work up to timing belt changes, but a head gasket is where I would throw in the towel. If you haven't done similar work on a car before, you'll probably get overwhelmed and risk taking it apart and not being able to get it back together again. The price sounds about right unfortunately; you could maybe "find a guy" would do it for ~$1-2k but with no guarantee of quality or money back. You can't sell a car in California with a check engine light or without smog, so you're really up a creek there. The state might have a program where they pay you $1-1.5k to retire the car.

  • Our large adult son got hurt

According to this, Matt will be out of the show indefinitely due to a medical emergency. Didn't see a thread on the topic yet.
