Crew aboard a U.S.-bound plane discovered a missing window pane at 13,000 feet
  • I think it's more shocking that the flight attendants didn't notice.

Based on the 321 size and regulations in the route, it should have had a minimum of 2. Usually, that would mean one in the front and one in the back galley. Even flying mostly empty, they would usually be fully staffed at 4.

How did they not hear the noise? They should know exactly how loud that plane should be.

  • Younger veterans feel uncomfortable when told thank you for service: Poll
  • My grandfather and uncle both served in my countries military, and I didn't know what else to do at the time. While yes, they are used in combat, the majority of what they do is not warfare.

During my time, we assisted in sandbagging villages from flooding, helped fight forest fires, protected civilians fleeing from a warlord, etc. I personally never participated in those missions, but it was part of why I signed up.

As I said, I don't always support how our military is used, but the need is real. And that, unfortunately, sometimes includes fighting.

  • Fan theories about racist caricatures in phantom menace do not hold water
  • You are completely discounting accidental racism. Every person at every level involved could have had no bad intentions and still have the sum total be so.

All that said, you didn't mention the actual problem with the movie that led to the commentary... total shitty dumpster fire levels of writing.

George Lucas has always been clear that a major influence on Star Wars was old serials like Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon. You know what was extremely common in those old serials? Racist stereotypes for villains and racist stereotypes for side kicks, also often cartoonish buffoons.

Again, not saying he was intentionally racist, but with the lack of quality writing skills, it's clear he fell back to tropes from his favourite stories from his childhood. Those tropes usually horribly racist. A better writer could have done better with those tropes.
