Upgraded add-on signatures required for Firefox 127

Greetings from the Mozilla Add-ons team!

Mozilla has upgraded the signing for Firefox extensions, themes, dictionaries, and language packs to provide a stronger signature for a more secure add-ons ecosystem. This upgrade may impact add-on versions uploaded to https://addons.mozilla.org (AMO) differently depending on the date they were uploaded and whether they are self-distributed or distributed via AMO. Please see below for which add-ons will be affected.

For developers of add-on versions hosted on AMO that were uploaded prior to April 5, 2019.

    • No action will be required; the most recent public version of your add-on will be re-signed automatically April 25, 2024 resulting in a version bump

    • Developers will receive a confirmation email once the auto re-signing of their add-on is complete

For developers of add-on versions self-distributed that were uploaded prior to April 5, 2019.

    • Action will be required as Mozilla is not able to automatically re-sign unlisted versions since the distribution is controlled by the developer and thus the AMO team cannot determine which version(s) to re-sign

    • Action required: To continue to distribute any self-hosted versions uploaded to AMO prior to Apr 5, 2019, developers will need to submit new versions to AMO.

Self-distributed add-on versions that are not re-submitted by Apr 15 will no longer be installable on any version of Firefox 127: Nightly (Apr 15), Beta (May 13) or Release (Jun 11). Add-ons installed prior to Firefox 127 will continue to work for now, but we ask that you encourage your users to upgrade to the new, re-signed version of your add-on once you have re-submitted it to AMO. Any previous versions that are no longer in use do not need to be re-submitted to AMO.

Please feel free to reply to this email if you have any questions.

    Regards,

    Mozilla Add-ons team

Proton and Standard Notes are joining forces

    From reddit announcement:

Hi everyone, This is Andy, Proton founder/CEO here. I just wanted to share the news that Standard Notes and Proton are joining forces.

This was an idea that people from both the Proton and Standard Notes communities have brought up repeatedly over the years, and after discussing it with Mo, the founder of Standard Notes, we both felt it was a good idea.

Both Proton and Standard Notes have unique shared values. We are both community-driven, not VC-financed, and committed to open-source. By joining forces, we hope to deliver more valuable services to both the Proton and Standard Notes user communities. A bit more about this on the Proton blog here.

As always, thanks for your support as we continue to fight for a more private internet, now with even more people on the team!

Proton's New Policy for Free Inactive Accounts

    Hi everyone,

After reviewing your feedback, we want to share the new Free Inactive Account Policy.

Why does Proton need an inactivity policy?

Inactive data stored on Proton servers increases the risk of abuse and the operating cost for everyone in the community. The updated policy ensures that we:

    • Offer the best services to our active users
    • Manage our resources in a sustainable way
    • Protect all users who need Proton Privacy products

As many of you know, Proton is a community-funded organization providing free access to our services to millions around the world. We do not have venture capital funding or advertising profits, making our user subscriptions our only source of revenue.

    What is the new policy?

Free inactive accounts and all data associated with them will be deleted after one year.

How do I keep my account active?

    Subscribers are automatically considered active.

Users on a free plan need to log in or use our services once every 12 months. If you are already logged in, you should use one of our products at least once every 12 months (for example, access your inbox, read an email, connect to a VPN server, etc.).

For Proton Mail, activity is considered by Account, not by email address. Keeping an active Account ensures that any email addresses you created for that Account (@proton.me, @pm.me, etc.) also remain active.

If you are subject to insurmountable circumstances that won't allow you to stay active on your account for 12 months, please get in touch with Customer Support.

    When does it start?

There will be a one-year grace period before the new policy takes place on April, 9, 2026, providing two years of inactivity to current free users.

    When will I be notified?

Notifications will be sent to your recovery email 30, 15, and 7 days before any action is taken.

Thank you for providing your feedback in building this policy and let us know if you have any questions about it.

    Bugtracker Migration to GitLab Completed

Things did go smooth and we migrated all issues from flyspray to GitLab! 🥳

    This implies the following changes:

    • Bugs for packages are now opened on the repo hosting the corresponding packaging sources, "Add a new Bug" on the package page will automatically direct you to the correct package.
    • A list of all issues can be found here. To filter for issues assigned to a specific package maintainer, use the filter input box. A link containing the filter can be bookmarked for convenience.
    • Merge Requests for packaging repos have been enabled
    • bugs.archlinux.org is readonly and will be replaced by a static clone of the site soon
    • Navbars on our major webpages have been updated to include a link to GitLab instead of flyspray
    • the flyspray-migration test group (referenced in previous mails in this thread) has been deleted
    • Arch Linux Package Maintainers that also want to be assigned to unconfirmed bug of their packages have to react with "🔍" to this issue

#123 Infrastructure Work · This Week in GNOME
  • there are many interesting one's for me this issue, mainly :

    • Drag and drop of folders will now work with sandboxed applications (Drop a folder from Nautilus onto Amberol)
    • In the works is accessing USB devices with per-device, per-app permissions.
    • Adding CSS variables support to GTK.
    • Grouping notifications by app in GNOME Shell.
    • CalDAV/CardDAV support in Gnome Online accounts.

Hope we get many of these in coming few months.

  • Spending a few days with Hyprland made me realize how awesome Gnome is
  • Same here. being subscribed to unixporn community, hyprland always makes me wanna try it. but everytime i did, i just couldn't make it as my norm. Then i return to my good old Gnome.

(what sereral months of DE/WM hopping made me realize was i am not good at using WM's. The only one i used atleast few months was openbox in archcraft )
