  • It's beautiful!

This is what the bots get for their expansionism. If they keep taking over the galaxy there will be nowhere for our children and our children's children to settle.

  • Ford asks education ministry to probe TDSB field trip to protest
  • The monkeys paw will surely curl when they also ban students from attending the March for Life in Ottawa right?

When I was in school my school sent us every year pitching it as a free trip to Ottawa.

  • Yeah I remember when they rolled that out… it does not give me hope for the future of privacy.

Canada needs to really ramp up our privacy laws, I’m not crazy about GDPR specifically, but there needs to be something more substantial here.

  • Northern Ontario man solves local legend, finds long-lost vintage liquor at bottom of a lake
  • I love stories like this

Growing up in northern Ontario my dad used to read us poetry, with a family favourite being The Cremation of Sam McGee by Robert Service.

In 2009 they found the wreck of the A J Goddard on Lake Laberge (also using a fish finder) which sank just a three years before the poem was written. At the time my brother and I were excited thinking it was the same boat as in the poem, but later I learned the poem is based on an cremation in the engine of a different wrecked ship. It was very fun speculating though! You never really think of how dangerous those boats were.

Another interesting bit of trivia is that Parks Canada actually owns (manages?) two shipwrecks in the Arctic, the HMS Terror and the Erebus, which were only discovered in 2016 and 2014 respectively. Inuit oral stories and legends actually resulted in the discovery of the wrecks 170 years later, it's a very interesting story.

  • Reading my colleagues code
  • Hey boss, I'm logging this ticket as tech debt. We need to take this on to hit our marketing deadline, and as soon as the project is over we need two scrum cycles to resolve it.

    Two years later...

This ticket has been open forever, can we just delete it since nobody is ever going to clean this up? It's messing up our velocity metric.

  • Ceiling lights, LED bulbs or fixtures?
  • I would go with the bulbs

The fixtures are nice but they can have high failure rates and are more difficult to replace, as you have to replace the whole unit.

Bulbs on the other hand are easy to replace if they fail, they're standardized so anyone can walk to the store and pick up an A19 60W equivalent.

    The most awkward episode?

    TNG S4E16 Galaxy's Child

This episode has so much cringe in it.

Geordie setting up a meeting and trying to make it into a date is a lot. Plus omitting that he had the computer summarize her files to resolve a critical crisis, while using the information he got from her file in discussing with her is not good.

Brahms does an excellent job letting him down and putting up firm boundaries.

But oh god, when she discovers the holodeck program, and then Geordie rant!

It's tough to watch in a totally different way than the Quark Gender swap episode.

How come Data has rights but not the legacy EMH?

I just watched Measure of a Man, they rule Data has the right to choose. But in Voyager the EMH gets relegated to forced servitude. Why? Doesn’t that violate precedent?

Poilievre says 'biological males' should be banned from women's sports, change rooms and bathrooms

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre stepped into the debate over trans rights on Wednesday, saying "biological males" should be banned from women's sports, change rooms and bathrooms.

"Female spaces should be exclusively for females, not for biological males," Poilievre said in Kitchener, Ont.

The Conservative leader made the comments after being asked if, as prime minister, he would introduce legislation to prevent "transgender women" or "biological men" from participating in female sports or entering female prisons and shelters.

"A lot of the spaces … are provincially and municipally controlled, so it is unclear ... what reach federal legislation would have to change them," Poilievre said.

"But obviously female sports, female change rooms, female bathrooms should be for females, not for biological males," he added.
