  • How does this help keep you private since it's only your traffic using the host? Can you help me understand?

  • Same story, made the switch and now I use the ecosystem except the password manager. It's a bunch of solid products. Tad Expensive (compared to free like Gmail) but I'm happy.

  • Ukrainians chilling in their trenches listen to nearby Russians getting cluster bombed.
  • That sounds way worse than I imagined. All the videos seem to be from drones with no sound which is scary enough, but the added threat of the relentless sound is just... Wow.

  • Sad about Jim Caviezel being a looney. Persons of Interest is one of my favorite shows.

  • Sync for Lemmy (beta) is now live for everyone
  • Didn't realize how much I missed the slide to upvote. This is great. I know the whole subscription thing but whatever, I don't want ads and it's a tiny yearly payment. I'm in for the year and let everything work itself out.

    Feels great.

  • Pence condemns Trump on Jan. 6 indictment: ‘country is more important’
  • Such a joke, how many years has he been wobbly on the subject and now that there's 79 felony counts on the T-Rump, nowwww he's taking a stand?

  • Sound Off: How many 10+ year redditors have left the site?
  • It makes me sad but I was part of the digg fiasco and switched to reddit. I was hours... And hours a day and pretty active.

I haven't been back to reddit since it killed the Sync for Reddit app. 100% Lemmy now.

  • Compare american vs japanese craftsmen-cars
  • I couldn't find anything to prove this so it's just my instincts, but if those two exact trucks smash into each other, one is going to ride right through the other.

Small truck to small truck is safe. Big truck to small truck is not just less safe for small teuck but it's not a contest.

  • Sync for Lemmy pre-registration is now open
  • Liftoff has been great. Really got me addicted again to a scrolling feed and the easier navigation. Was starting to break the habit because mobile browser isn't as slick. Been a sync user for over a decade so that'll be my daily driver when it's ready. There's nothing wrong with liftoff, it's just not where my heart is.

  • I don't think so, I think it's just a joke about him doing things as a cartoon version he couldn't do in real life, and also him tripping balls.

  • A lot of these guys want to be zipping around in those beeping, star trek chairs. Just a room full of beeps as they still try and "talk" over each other.

  • So, how many lemmynsfw.com communities have you blocked?
  • I'm blocking some bots and a bunch of porn. I didn't block porn on Reddit, just scrolled past the few posts but with less content there is more porn in my way. I'm not worried about it being there in general I guess.

  • Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Strange New Worlds | 2x07 "Those Old Scientists"
  • I enjoyed it, fun and different and the ending did make me laugh with Spock's arm. I found I was less invested in the story as I was focused on the character interactions. Overall, I'm fine with it and it didn't have to be anything that is not trying to be.

  • What is your preferred fitness tracker/smartwatch?
  • 5x is great. Still working perfectly and looks great. That sapphire glass is fantastic. I have friends with scratches in their pixel watches already yet with all my yard work, stone work, building things and sports - not a scratch.

  • What is your preferred fitness tracker/smartwatch?
  • Love my Fenix 5x. Sapphire glass, rugged and the battery lasts forever. It wasn't cheap but worth every penny. No touch screen and I turn off most notifications. It just works as a nice watch with fitness tracking. Garmin really makes a good product.

  • I feel like I'm spending less time on social media after switching to Lemmy
  • I always browsed r/all, I subbed to a bunch but only went to them occasionally. I'm in it for the mindless scrolling in downtime and news.

I miss always having new content. I was almost 100% reddit anyway and now it's 100% Lemmy just with less content so inherently I spend less time.

I know technically I could be a contributor to content but it's just not me. I think I had ten total reddit comments the whole 14 years I was using it. It's not my thing.

  • Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Strange New Worlds | 2x06 "Lost In Translation"
  • Great episode with serious and feel good moments.

Watching Kirk and Spock meet was fun.

  • World record power cable connects UK and Denmark
  • Interconnectors bring huge benefits to the UK, acting as clean energy super-highways, allowing us to move surplus green energy from where it is generated to where it is needed the most. That means that we can import cheaper and cleaner energy from our neighbours when we need it, and vice versa.”

Honestly this is amazing. Adding this ability mentioned and some resilience to the grid.

  • How are you accessing Lemmy now? Browser or app?
  • Mobile browser, it's a bit clunky but waiting for Sync. I haven't been back to reddit more than a handful of times since before the blackout. Patiently waiting for Sync.

  • Dessert with nuts and cream
  • Looks good. I was really confused by the title and thumbnail at first, I expected a desert but got a dessert instead.

A waste of a perfectly good explanation
