Reminder: WOE spoilers are over at /c/spoilers!

Make sure to subscribe to !spoilers@mtgzone.com if you want to get updates on new cards from Wilds of Eldraine (and all new cards!) as they get spoiled!

Spoiler season can be pretty overwhelming for the homepage, so we're trying to keep them in their own community for now. By all means create posts in /c/mtg or other communities for specific discussions though.

  • I had "blocked" the Spoilers community because I didn't want the posts overrunning my home page, but then when I went directly to https://mtgzone.com/c/spoilers it said there weren't any posts there, until I unblocked it. This is probably a Lemmy limitation but... is there any middle-ground setting I'm missing? I'm okay with seeing spoiler posts if I go looking for them, I just don't want them on my home page.

(Blocked communities aren't listed on https://mtgzone.com/communities either. I do see that there's a list of what I have blocked on my settings page, so I could have gotten to it that way.)

    • Ah I didn't realize people did this! I think the best approach would be to view the "Subscribed" homepage and not the "Local" homepage, then you won't need to block communities. You could then subscribe to Spoilers during spoiler season(s) (and unsubscribe after) or just go to that community page whenever you want to check them.

You can make this your default in the user settings page, there's a button group labeled "Type" where you can select the default. Does this solve the problem?

      • I've been using "Local" as my home page, but that's partly because this site is in a weird, early phase where I'm actually interested in seeing posts about things I normally wouldn't be. Like, I'm not a Commander player, but right now I'm interested in Commander posts because I'm interested in watching MTGZone grow. Some day it may grow to the point where I feel I can't keep up with everything anymore, and then I'll stop reading Commander posts.

But maybe the best approach would be for me to just subscribe to every community (except Spoilers) and then drop them off my subscriptions one by one as it starts to feel like they're too much.

        Thanks for the advice!

        • Yeah I see what you mean completely, content is still slow here and will be for a while as we grow, so that makes sense.

I subscribe to every community for that reason (even though content is even thinner there) and would absolutely do the same spoilers toggle periodically. I'm posting most of them so it doesn't really matter currently for me 😜
