I was wondering, with all the different Lemmy clients and frontends, what/which out of these do people actually use? To answer this, I made a poll if anyone wants to fill it out, and I tried to put every client I could find.
To be honest I was extremely skeptical about Sync because I didn't use it for Reddit and I thought that the default web-ui is pretty neat even on my mobile phone. But curiosity got me and I installed it, even though it's not FLOSS and it has ads in it which are two no-goes for me. Still I'm using it on the phone predominately, but I hate myself for it.
I paid the one time fee so no ads for me, but I disagree with people who outright hate ads, I do dislike the current culture around ads but I'll explain my reason below:
Basically growing up in the society where the internet was a new thing and people didn't trust it, I didn't get money to spend on things and ads basically allowed me to access things which I wouldn't have been able to otherwise. Now one can argue that's a failing of society in different ways, but you can't ask children to change society and specially if it's the knowledge that's being held back.
I do agree that ads have gotten so much worse, that it's better to avoid them if possible, especially when it's political or medical ads or if the ads are not filtered for embedded viruses (computer or human mind) but the ad system is not bad in itself, at least until we get a system which provides knowledge and entertainment to children for free.
