Why do the rest of us measure our current year based on the birth of a religious figure who may or may not have existed, who has little to no connection to our culture or society? It's one of the curious things about how we keep time in the rest of the world.
Not sure at the moment. It's a relatively new calendar, only established 1997 as far as I can tell. Maybe as a tribute to Kim Il Sung and his contributions to the people.
ah i see, thanks for the explanation probably could have just looked it up but im always a little skeptical about doing that with literally anything about the DPRK lol
