If historical reprisal history is to be judged, somewhere between 10 times and 100 times the death inflicted are where the conflict simmers down. How many people have to die before the fighting can stop? Hamas killed a thousand - so Israel has to kill 10,000? 100,000? When is it enough?
Group punishment, collective punishment, air raids, rarely break the fighting spirit of the people. Typically they become more resilient.
