As the National Book Awards came to a close on Wednesday, finalists for the prestigious literary prizes took the stage in New York to speak about the Israel-Hamas war, with others at the ceremony also choosing to address banned books.
Well it only only took me the first sentence of your first link to prove that it is in fact a lie:
a local parent sent the Clay County School District in Florida eight official Requests for Reconsideration or Review of Instructional Materials, commonly known as “book ban” requests.
They want to remove sexual material from school libraries. That is not the same thing as an outright "book ban", and everyone knows it.
I supposed you'd support adding Playboy and Hustler to school libraries? Or should they remain "banned" also?
Youre conflating the problem to a black and white issue. Playboy was never okay to be in the classroom inthe first place. The problem isnt that banned books didnt already exist (of course they always do, some of the most common books banned are historically classical books, Huck Finn. Color purple, 1984), its a matter of people using it to ban books with subjects they dont like, and you can tell because one instance a kids book was banned because the authors name is Gay.
The people banning books arent doing any due dilligence on the books their banning. They are just searching for words in the texts for themes they don't like and putting them on a list of books to be removed.
Youre conflating the problem to a black and white issue.
I'm not conflating anything. This entire movement is conflating "book bans" with "removing books from children's libraries".
And I intentionally made it black and white to highlight the issue. It's called hyperbole.
The people banning books arent doing any due dilligence on the books their banning.
I would argue the exact opposite. The ones I've seen that have been removed have been incredibly sexually explicit. And while we can reasonably debate what kind of sexual content should and shouldn't be allowed, that's not what's happening. Liberals are arguing against the mere concept of "banning books".
So do you believe its okay for some school to ctrl+f "gay" through any text in a book and automatically ban it. Liberals arent saying that there should be no book bans, like ive mentioned there are already several books that have been banned for several decades now. Its about finding the ones and doing proper bans. Its just that jurisdictions who are actively banning them are taking every short cut possible to remove books with any theme with them. Do you actually think liberals would okay having Mein Kampf in yheir students libraries? By saying that you believe liberals are fighting against banning books at all, you have litterally just painted liberals in a black and white fashion.
Thank you for reminding us that every word uttered by a conservative is deception or manipulation.
Nearly every hate crime, act of oppression and act of bigotry ever committed in the U.S. has been committed by conservatives. We should be teaching children why it is immoral to conduct business with or keep relationships with conservatives.
LOL I'm not even sure what that is supposed to mean. If you were trying to insinuate that I am a conservative, I'm not. I just oppose lies.
But thank you for reminding us (as if we needed it) that every political opinion is driven by tribalism and zero actual rational contemplation takes place.
I'm not insinuating that you are a conservative. I'm calling you out for espousing a very conservative position. Supporting conservative positions is a pretty conservative thing to do. You should not pretend to be so surprised that someone has called you a conservative.
And, like most conservative positions, the one you chose to support is harmful to vulnerable people, intentionally hateful and toxic as fuck. You chose to defend an evil position using deception. I didn't do that. You did that.
I'm glad you would find being called conservative offensive. Being called a conservative should always be taken as an insult.
Supporting conservative positions is a pretty conservative thing to do.
I never "support conservative positions". I use logic and reason to derive rational positions. You should give it a try sometime.
You chose to defend an evil position using deception. I didn't do that. You did that.
LOL no, you're literally doing that right now.
When you support conservative positions, you shouldn't be so surprised that someone would call you conservative.
I'm not surprised at all. Happens every day. People call me conservative, liberal, Nazi, Tankie, etc. when they're incapable or unwilling to rationally defend their position. Liberals particularly love to hurl personal insults and debate the content of your character that they've immediately fabricated from their ass and thrust onto you rather than the actual issue at hand, much like yourself.
