30 2 ReplyI'm an ISO 8601 guy but the MM/DD does make sense in American. We'll say Oct 20th for a date and then straight translate that to numbers 10/20. It makes more sense than counting in French. Ex. 60, 70, 80, 90

The only reason I could see is if you were speaking it. September 18th 2012 for example might sound a bit better than 18 September 2012.
