Man I just got dog piled on an argument over voting. I get it's a hot topic in this community but having people call me a fascist and telling me to die in Barbara pit is a fucking mood killer. Is voting really deserving of such hate? Was it an argument that got too heated? Is it normal to experience this from fellow comrades over a small disagreement or is the issue really as defining of a person as it was made to seem?
(And big surprise, they weren't "dogpiled" for a slight disagreement, but for actively being pro-fash and pro-genocide, smugly ignorant, and refusing to actually listen to anything anyone said, all while demanding civility from everyone else while not returning it in kind.)
About what I expected. Mods were insanely patient to only give them a few day temp, i've been permbanned from so many places just for my uncompromising antifascism, not just on lemmy but also on basically every platform I join. Libs get one whiff of that and go into a bloodrage.
Yeah, they cry about how "authoritarian" our mods are, but every time I look at another lemmy instance I see the mods abusing their powers far more than here, our mods are generally patient and willing to just give temp bans rather than permanent bans.
Also hilarious to see other instances being nonstop "uncivil" with each other, the mask of civility slips off very quickly, they always bicker and argue in a way I just don't see here. We actually seem to get along with each other and when we disagree, it's time for education, not hurling baseless insults (insults are still hurled, but not baseless ones). I think that might be why their brains short circuit a little bit when they deal with us, because in lib to lib communication, they will just ignore what the other person said and pretend they said something else so they can argue against that instead. Then when they want to "win" they just announce "logical fallacy" and declare victory. But we don't tolerate that here, we actually read what they say, and expect them to do the same.
