With the new tram system in Liège, lots of car lanes were replaced with grassy tram tracks

this looks so much nicer than roads. god I hate car culture
I love grassy tram tracks
And here we see the tram grazing in its natural habitat. Admire its beauty and majesty. What peaceful creatures.
Lol, crazy to see this lil' guy on here.
'tis true that the tram had a large impact on transport on the left bank of the Meuse, by basically creating a large "trunk" of public transport where many different bus lines used to run parallel to get to the city center.
Unfortunately public transport is still woefully lacking in this city, the tram line extension to the north was canceled by the new government and the right bank is still totally unserved by any kind of rail and covered in high-speed 4 lane stroads.
And let's not get into the politics of constructing this thing. It's taken decades to get this planned and the construction was severely mismanaged and many years late, over budget, and extremely disruptive to businesses which caused an insane number of bankruptcies.
Don't get me wrong, the tram is great and all, but unfortunately it's still just a small first step on a large backlog of issues.
I’m amazed this works, and that the tram doesn’t need more clearance. I’m guessing the grass has to remain mowed/trimmed.
Attach push mowers to the tram 😎
I don't know how frequently though. I've got beautiful memories of Lyon's tram lines covered in dandelion's and daisy's flowers. For them to grow, you need not to mow to the ground.
