Toto on Max's 10 in a row: Our situation was different because we had two guys fighting against each other within the team. I don't know whether he cares about the record. It's not something that would be important for me, any of those numbers. It's for Wikipedia. Nobody reads that anyway
Mostly yes. At McLaren it was borderline winning, certainly not dominant though. And his first year at Merc (before the new regs came into force) was also not a winning car.
The way he says it really shows how much it actually does bother him.
Echoing what I saw on the other site, it’s got to be hard to get beat at the end of your dominant regulation cycle, by a questionable call, then to come out the next year with what you believe to be a race car that would crush the competition and having it be absolute shit must feel terrible. Merc is having a bad few years and it’s got to be demoralizing for the team, some of which probably had only experienced the dominant period.
Eh, there's something to criticize about the absolute piles of smugness coming from) bredbull /max. These comments get hyped up, while any humble stuff is never mentioned. It's a competitive sport, people will inevitably say shit, none of it will ever completely define anyone.
This. Personally who cares how many races a guy wins in a row? Especially when he has the best car by far. All the honour goes to the car actually, not so much the driver.
But congratulate him anyway and move on. It's basic sportsmanship.
I get it Toto. 10 straight wins for Max and company, who cares... Its all about the team and the ability to respond to the conditions each week, to have your cars positioned the best they can be, without winning.
Yep... Max's dominance seems to be a side effect of the new regulations for closer racing, IMO. The new regulations favor Max because he is so consistent and fast while still having a bit of a margin, combined with a now very reliable car, and a good portion of luck as well. I still think it's more interesting to watch than the previous years. Max is, while more consistently in front, still closer to the pack than Hamilton in his dominant years.
I'd also lay a lot of the "problems" of the sport are also due to the attitude of the fans praising the winner in an "all or nothing"-fashion instead of focusing on the battles for 2nd-10th as well. F1 already did try a lot to change this, IMO (DotD, fastest Lap, new Regs, TV-directing)
If this were cycling, max would be doping. It wouldn't be a question. It is plainly odd; this I'd just ten in a row it's ten complete and utter incomparable dominations. They weren't races for max, just formalities. That is odd. Great car, sure, but it speaks to something else being a little off, whether that's regulations or the driver or economics I can't say. Max is an insanely talented driver, and probably one of the best there has ever been, not taking anything away from him in that regard.
Well it is still a competition. Red bull are winning because they made a great car and have a driver who will go down as legendary. Similarly merc had a great car and legendary driver combo. It would only cease to be a competition if Red Bull are given the victory irrespective of where they finish or it comes out that the entire F1 season is scripted in a similar way to WWE
