  • The government is to busy propping up their mates in Qantas

Municipal councils in Broome, Karratha, Geraldton and Carnarvon held closed meetings to promise various amounts in millions of dollars toward continued Qantas services during lockdown. In Geraldton, the amount was three hundred dollars for every member of the population, even though only about ten percent are ever likely to use it. No consultation. Appalling plutocratic governance. Thank goodness for road coaches.

      • Yeah I was in Karratha during the lock downs. It was a big talking point of the town with all the BHP and RIO workers worried about their travels.

I got shafted and couldn't leave cause of work commitments

  • Articles like this come off as glib. Aviation is a dreadful industry for all involved.

    • Why

I like getting to Sydney in a bit over an hour, that works out better for me, so I guess it's not dreadful for everyone

      • It's a race to the bottom for providers, everyone's margin gets squeezed to compete, and services suffer as a result.

So you can buy a $69 hop from BNE to SYD, but there's no guarantee on timeliness, no practical refunds, and you will be provided the bare minimum of comfort and facilities on your trip.

      • I like getting to Sydney overnight.

If I have to stay in a cheap hotel in Tullamarine so I don’t miss my flight, I arrive stressed, tired, hungry and usually late for my appointment.

If I catch the XPT from Southern Cross, I arrive refreshed, relaxed and satiated. I can then take advantage of Sydney’s public transport to get to my appointment on time.
