That's quite literally the point of a union. To hold that company's production hostage in order to level the playing field with those who otherwise are holding livelihoods, futures, and survival hostage.
- When uninvolved third parties are bearing more hardship from the action than the owners of the company are, it's closer to terrorism than a strike. But I mean, if a private company is so important to the survival of the country, it should be nationalized.
  Edit: Of course, this isn't a strike. In this case, the union workers are the target of the action, they are not the actor.
  
  CN rail was privatized in 1995. It hasn't been good.
