Who is in your matchmaking trio?

Matchmaking requires picking three heroes you're willing to play. Who have you landed on, and why?

Tell us a bit about how you like to play your three, so the rest of us might get an idea of which other heroes we might like to try, too.

  • I love McGinnis. I'm actually pretty good with McGinnis. But it seems that every other hero I've tried fails to click. Not really sure where to go with it, but the other two slots are always heroes that I hope will maybe work today.

  • Don't remember names and only played 5 or so hours so take this as you will.

Shoulders machine gun lady is my favorite, probably because how simple she is. I throw the reload on my card throw. Suspend someone, attack speed boost, mag dump, throw card, continue mag dump. Basically melts everything.

Ancient bow guy I like for good poke.

Sniper lady is decent for securing kills but o don't love her kit as a whole.

That's it. Everyone else doesn't really excite me.

  • Yamato - Japanese samurai lady. Seemed fun, and she is. Still figuring her out tho.

Vindicta - Cute sniper girl. Remains squishy AF towards late game so need to keep your distance. Buying the silencing bullets item makes her a total monster at range. The crow ability feels a bit meh. Using her flight ability in a way where you instantly cancel it to turn it into a huge jump to escape danger, is good.

Paradox - The grenade ability is a very powerful AOE. She can burst some damage at range with her third, and once I figured out that the time shield ability does damage to any enemies that walk through it, playing her offensively clicked. The position swap can be tricky to set up but using it right is a death sentence.

  • Bebop, Dynamo, Mo & Krill. No particular reason for those 3 other than they're all fun to play. I get a lot of dopamine when I hook someone from the end of the map.

  • I don't have a settled three since I'm still working through all the heroes and finding my favourites. And I'm not that great at the game so don't want to tell people how to play. But I do prefer a couple of heroes.

Paradox is probably my favourite to play. The burst fire weapon helps me last hit, which is nice, and both the grenade and the charged shot are very powerful laning abilities. She has some insane combos you can pull off, and setting up kills with the swap is a great feeling late game when you need to initiate team fights.

Shiv with quicksilver reload on his dagger and extra charges is just a ridiculous hero. Very fun to play and can completely massacre people.

Pocket is the hero I thought I'd like the most when just reading the skill descriptions and looking at the art. Absolutely love the design, and while I need to work on my aim I'm pretty good at juking, which he plays into well. I do struggle a bit in lane with him due to his weapon tempting me to go close range a lot. I'm still mostly ass with him, but hopefully I'll figure it out eventually.

    • I accidentally swapped an enemy Bepop firin his giant lazer to a spot that had direct line of site to my entire team... 😭

  • McGinnis - I have almost 3k hours in Deep Rock Galactic with engineer as my favourite character and McGinnis is basically a direct analog. Just need a platform gun lol. With upgraded stamina I can apply a ton of pressure early-game by constantly firing, switching positions and firing again all while my turrets hold down certain areas. I'm still not so good 1v1, but I think that's just how the character plays.

Dynamo - Orb. Also his late game can be devastating. Fully upgraded Kinetic Pulse with Mystic Reverb can half most characters and erases candle bois. His Translocation ability has gotten me out of so many bad situations too. It's also really satisfying when you trap almost the entire enemy team with his ultimate. Also he's an orb, so.

Paradox - I love the voice. She can lock down characters and do a lot of damage with the right timing, but I haven't yet been consistent with that. Also her freeze ability can really shake people up lol.

    • About McGinnis in 1v1s. Just played my first match as her with 15 kills.

Seems the wall can be used to do a ministun if you can land it right under someone. Pop the heal at your feet to give yourself tankiness, and pop out turrets as fast as you can to give urself DPS and to force your victim to pick between shooting you and the turrets. Also make sure the heal and turrets overlap, as it heals them too, they'll stick around longer.

Do not chase. Her strengths lie in the AOE of her turrets and the heal. If you leave those behind you're essentially down to just shooting.

If you can use the wall to trap your victim together with you and your turrets, great. That's what you should be doing instead of chasing.

Forget using her ult for anything except teamfights or pushing a lane. In a 1v1 your opponent can just get up close to you, where you can't hit them. If they are running away though, then it works quite well for finishing them as the range on it is quite good. Remember that you can cancel the ult anytime if you need to move or shoot someone close to you.

      • Ah, I suppose it's just my play style. I ALWAYS fully upgrade stamina and walking speed so I can zip around and dodge. I guess I have to focus more an health and resist late game when 1v1 is much more common.

    • Immediately adopting Candle Bois.

      Official community jargon.

  • Warden - I'm most comfortable with him and despite what people claim about his chaining ability being easy to escape I have yet to meet someone who manages to escape it more than once in a match. If it's fully upgraded I can easily solo most chars except for the extremely tank ones. Ult is also incredibly dangerous once upgraded to second tier, and melts almost everyone, when upgraded with reach items it gets even worse. Also super important to buy bullet velocity, turns his weapon from an unreliable piece of junk into a beautiful mid-range weapon.

Shiv - Melee Build is terrifyingly effective, especially with lifesteal. Slap some movement speed on him as well and his Ult suddenly turns useless because everyone in insta-kill range is also insta-killed with a regular melee.

Pocket - Can't play them for shit but I love their design and kit, and I'm trying my best.

    • Warden with a melee build is just police brutality. Only need slowing bullets to make the 3 a guaranteed beat down. Favorite build so far.
