Ever since Elon Musk took over Twitter, I and many others have been looking for alternatives. Who wants to share a platform with the likes of Andrew Tate and Tommy Robinson?
It’s always been there and has always existed cuz that’s how people are. Moderation is the only thing that fends this stuff off. Have you guys never looked through the Lemmy modlog?
Answer: it is unethical to continue using it.

Ans: It is owned by a guy that’s full of hatred. Simply a reflection of him.
It was always that way. Musk just took off the guardrails.
I have little sympathy for people like the author who knowing all this continue to give content to that site. And I don't care about their excuses.
