Okay, so, with structural modules- specifically the cowl/belly/hull modules you can slap in... aside from the trivial gains to hull, are they basically just for attachment points/decoration?
could i protect things that can be targeted- the weapons, shields, engines, and grav drive- by placing 'under' hull components? or does that just not matter?
I don't believe NPC's target your modules they are always aiming for center of mass on your vessel. You can build a ship with an empty center of mass to cheese the space combat and not get hit.
Incidentally I believe it's the pip boy auto targeting code being recycled for this mechanic.
Is it confirmed that its' Center of Mass and not center of the hitbox? cuz, I'm pretty sure that calculation would be prohibitively difficult (and the reason that, for example, putting all your engines out on a single boom doesn't just spin you in circles.)
The thing is, donut ships offend my sense of aesthetics (which, admittedly tend to compact bricks...)
i dunno but if you make a big L for instance along the edges of the limits in ship builder everything will shoot into the gap and miss you. people have published a number of exploit ship designs already but the L from some redditor is the simplest.
