While I appreciate what you’re trying to do, I won’t be participating. There’s two major issues.
Reddit Admins/ Place mods have shown in the past that they have zero problem with removing stuff from places that they don’t want there. Expect them to do the same with this.
Place is a blatant ploy to try to drive traffic to Reddit. I have zero intention of returning and padding Reddit’s engagement. Whether they’re using the engagement infusion as part of their IPO attempt, to encourage advertisers to use their services, or even just as a bragging stat in a blog post; I wouldn’t feel right about contributing.
Although this will boost reddit in the short run, in the long run it will drive more user away from big tech platform to more open, privated, community powered alternatives.
That's my thought. We'll all forget about r/place within a few weeks anyway, so we might as well use it to send a message. If we don't, something else will just take that space. They have enough "engagement". Just turn on your adblocker when you visit
Fuck Spez is all over the canvas and they are allying with us. Place will indeed drive up a lot of traffic. But once join-lemmy.org is plastered all over the media. People will start coming over and Reddit will lose users.
