Amari Marsh had just finished her junior year at South Carolina State University in May 2023 when she received a text message from a law enforcement officer.
She spent 22 days at the Orangeburg-Calhoun Regional Detention Center, where she was initially held without bond, facing 20 years to life in prison.
This August, 13 months after she was released from jail to house arrest with an ankle monitor, Marsh was cleared by a grand jury. Her case will not proceed to trial.
Cleared by a grand jury? Isn't the saying that you can get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich? Either the prosecutor tanked the case, or fucking no one is having that law. Or both.
I cannot even fathom the mental abuse this woman had to go through. Accidental birth, child dying and a murder charge. There's enough trauma there to last a lifetime.
