You know what? My sister has early hearing loss and now wears hearing aids. I've never thought about it, but honestly, the modern hearing aids could absolutely be used as an espionage device. They are hardly noticeable, Bluetooth enabled, and have microphones in them. I'm sure the post in the OP was an innocent civilian, but I genuinely wonder if that's something the letter agencies have considered and / or do with informants.
