Grouped notifications, notification filtering, better onboarding and a refreshed look await in this new release of our decentralized open-source social media software.
Now that 4.3 is done, our focus for the next release will be on implementing the highly requested features of quote posts, as well as the ability for server operators to subscribe to managed blocklists, which along with our new initiative of pluggable fediverse discovery providers should make running small and medium-sized fediverse servers much more viable; and with Ghost entering the fediverse, further improving how long-form content from other fediverse platforms is displayed within Mastodon.
Personally, I’m looking forward to the quote posts. Hopefully it’ll make discussions easier to read.
I don't. Had very bad experience with these and toxicity they enabled on Xitter and one of the main reasons why I left it for mastodon quite early. I would much more like to see if they focused on making it possible to also migrate posts when you change an instance/server.
Is the downside that quote posts make it easier for people to dog pile? That seems like it should be less of an issue because of defederating instances with that proclivity.
Definitely seeing some people complain about the design changes; once my server updates I'm sure I'll see for myself. But for the most part I'm fairly pleased with the new notification grouping. Long strings of hundreds of people liking the same post over and over meant I missed replies sometimes.

The great thing about Mastodon is, that you can freely chose what client you use. If you dislike the original client or web interface, just use Elk, Semaphore, Tusky, etc. whatever you prefer.
