The New York lawmaker responded to Fetterman's dismissal of her call on Monday for an arms embargo on Israel, which has received billions of dollars worth of weapons and other military aid since the Hamas-led October 7 attack.
Probably only if seen as vulnerable. The illegal unregistered Israeli foreign lobbying groups like AIPAC are a paper tiger unless they pick a small subset of races to dump a ton of money in, and every time they fail (like with Summer Lee) it emboldens more resistance. They don't want to wind up like the NRA, who got too aggressive with dems, lost some races, and then dems realized they didn't need to kiss that ring anymore, limiting their influence to the GOP.
So this is from 2021, before the latest conflict, and before the true face of modern Israel showed itself - one that is uncompromisingly genocidal.
I didn’t educate myself on the history of Israel and Zionism until the most recent conflict. I’m willing the bet that most of us were of the opinion of “ew, Zionism” before the conflict, but had other things on our mind. When we started watching the indiscriminate bombing of civilians like Hamas, but with efficacious weapons, we all saw that they do not care for peace.
She’s also from NYC and presumably has a non-zero Jewish constituency that helped vote her into the House. The 2021 vote was a political calculation, and I bet that would change in 2024.
TL:DR - The conflict is now in the Zeitgeist and a vote from 2021 is likely not representative of modernity.
You can in her district. There's no great love for Israel in most of the Bronx. Richie Torres baffles me. I assume he's getting some kind of Eric Adams-style kickback from Israel, because he's ALL IN on dead brown babies for the master race in a VERY brown district that he has never delivered ANYTHING for (or even really talked about their issues because he's like Giuliani is with 9/11 but with Israel bullshit)
