(Scottsdale, AZ) Gila Monster or Chuckwalla?
(Scottsdale, AZ) Gila Monster or Chuckwalla?
Currently in an argument- "too thin to be a Gila" vs "too beaded to be a chuckwalla"
Very sluggish, but it's only like 19c today. Maybe 25-30cm long
Gila monster. That head shape and legs/digits proportions could never be a Chuckwalla's. Skin looks like a Gilas too.
Sometimes lizards get sick and look thinner than normal and sluggish, I've found some like that.
7 0 ReplyVery cool!! My opinion is that it is a thin gila monster
I found another image of a Gila monster with a similar color pattern - with the small black dots inside hexagonal orange patches: https://btarboretum.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/20230410_102910-1536x1536.jpg

3 0 ReplyThat is very much not a gila monster. I don't know what a chuckwalla is, so I can't comment on that, but both my partner and I (we both lived in Tucson for years) were immediately like "nah, that's not a gila monster". I don't think it's a gila monster.
4 3 ReplyI don't think it's a gila
3 2 ReplyI don't have the credentials some of these guys do but I'd say that sure as fuck isn't a chuckwalla. Seems like it's the real deal...
