Where should we go from here?

With possumpat.io going offline soon, I figured it's worth talking about where to move what little content gets posted here. There's Gundam and Gunpla comms on both world and Blåhaj, but they're pretty dead with inactive mods. The logical home would seem to be ani.social, but there's no existing comm there.

I have zero interest in being a mod. Dunno if anyone else wants to give it a whirl, or if there are active comms I missed. The other option is to just be a very small minority in the general anime comms. Which is probably the logical choice, just kind of a bummer since Gundam is very much its own thing at this point. Huge in the grand scheme of things, but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of overlap with the general Lemmy demographic.

Hey, thanks for the tag. Here's my two cents.
I think basically being absorbed into a general anime community would be the best bet, as you said. If there just isn't a large number of people, then fragmenting the general community doesn't seem like a good idea even though having a Gundam space is ideal. If Lemmy grows in size and Gundam, for some reason, gets more popular, maybe it would be the time to branch off. Even lumping Gundam into a larger Mecha community would be worth it. But to me it's all about where the people are at.

Not meant to be an exhaustive list, just grabbed a few of the users that have been active recently.
- Not interested in modding, my plate is already over-full, sorry.
  I would be fine with the community migrating to ani.social or anywhere else and would be happy to continue commenting as I have been
- I probably wouldn't be able to contribute much to a Gundam community in the near future since I plan to skip the next show. I also haven't been able to do much Gunpla building lately since I've been focused on game dev (and I just set a hard deadline for my game by booking a table at a local convention at the end of March, so I won't be able to take a break from that any time soon.)

If a general gundam comm won’t mind us, I’d be okay with merging into them.
I’m not opposed to creating a new comm for general gundam stuff though. I can’t imagine there’s too much muss with it.

Edit 2: if we want to aim for an existing vs new comm I think the blahaj one might be best. Idk for sure, just going off what I see from the world vs blahaj comms at a cursory glance

- Sorry to hear about the instance going down!
  I don't really know much about Gundam (only watched Wing), but I am fairly confident that it and related topics (gunpla, etc.) would be completely within the purview of the types of communities welcome on ani.social. I am not an admin over there, but have had good experiences there with hitagi and the other communities that have built up over there.
  Somebody else that might be able to provide some perspective is @NineSwords@ani.social since they used to run the Light Novels community on the ml instance. However, they migrated the community to ani.social and I think it has been fairly successful and seen growth since.
  If a new community is decided on (anywhere, not just ani.social) that you want people to know about, feel free to make a post to the !anime@ani.social community publicizing it. Good luck!
  
  I appreciate the feedback! Maybe there's someone on the ani.social site that would be interested in modding. I am well aware that it's a thankless job... my younger self might have been eager to give it a whirl but these days I don't have the bandwidth lol.
- So, thought I would pop back in over here to see if anything had been decided, but it doesn't look like it. Reading through here, it seems like you are mainly missing somebody willing to moderate. If that is the case, I would be willing to volunteer as a kind of caretaker mod until somebody else wants to take over. My gundam knowledge isn't very deep, but my community moderating experience is fairly robust at this point.

  Hey, thanks for following up. I think there have been like 4 posts since I tossed this out for discussion, and 3 of them were me lol. I'm not sure that warrants creating a new comm, aside from meta reasons like keeping things from being too centralized, and being thematically appropriate for ani.social.
  If you want to make the comm, I'd be more than happy to seed it, crossposting both here (while it lasts) and on world to get eyeballs.

@MelodiousFunk I don't know about lemmy but if anyone is open to using mastodon, just use the #gundam and #gunpla hashtags

I just stumbled across your comm so don’t have a lot of familiarity with it, but it would be awfully sad to not have a gundam comm around. Hopefully you find a new home and I’ll look forward to more posts and memes wherever you land at.
- Thanks for the kind words. At the moment, it looks like nobody wants to mod (myself included lol). The path of least resistance would probably be to just start posting on the .world comm, which is basically abandoned.
