Steam Install

So I am on linuxmint 22, Should I install the Flatpak version of steam (It's not available, but should I, if it was) or whatever that Steam gives you (.DEB file) ??

In Mint most people recommend installing Steam directly from the website as .deb. There are dozens of informative threads on the official forums, which also explain some differences of the installation method, for example: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=427582

- The link you posted is about using steam with NTFS and the installation method has nothing to do with it.
  Even after reinstalling steam with the steam.deb file it shows the same error
  
  You have to read further. To quote some of it:
  "You use steam-installer from Ubuntu repos. There is also the official .deb installer from Valve Their differences: a) Valve's Steam & steam dependencies get updates. Ubuntu package does not. For now in Mint 22 this is not a problem. Both packages are in the same version or they were the last time I checked but this was quite recently. b) Ubuntu package still uses an obsolete folder layout in your "home" that official Steam doesn't follow any longer. It was creating some problems."

flatpak steam has had some issues launching games. learned that the hard way. usually i install from terminal, but the software center is ok too. since steam updates itself, i don't see any reason to avoid the .deb file either.

I don't really know mint but why not install it through your package manager?

  Steam updates itself so it shouldn't be a problem I run debian and use the package from their Repo and have no issues
  
  That would be very weird. I gather that Mint use Ubuntu's packages so it should be OK. Did you try it?

Just going to add, flatpaks have a hard time picking up controllers at least if you are using remote play. Would strongly recommend the deb

Whatever way you go with, if it pops up a "THIS MIGHT BRICK YOUR COMPUTER" kind of warning, maybe consider one of the other options instead of ignoring it and then complaining about how nothing in Linux works.

I'm on Debian 12 and I run the flatpak. If it breaks I just install Steam on the desktop until it's fixed. So they don't have to be mutually exclusive. But I haven't had to worry about the flatpak breaking in years.

Install via apt if flatpak isn't available. If you plan to use gamescope, proton etc then I'd recommend flatpak.
- But proton can be used in the .DEB version too right ? I mean almost every linux player ends up using proton
