DOGE Now Has Access to the Top US Cybersecurity Agency
DOGE technologists Edward Coristine—the 19-year-old known online as “Big Balls”—and Kyle Schutt are now listed as staff at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.
This doesn't anger me as much at the people just letting this happen at this point. Those of us who have taken the DISA training about PII and such are told never to share this info. But someone is allowing it. I mean, maybe if they have a gun to your head or jailed your family, maybe, but who the fuck is rolling over and just going "okay?" If these fuckers can do it, this data was never safe.
So infuriating. One unelected "head" of an unofficial department not approved or funded by Congress asking for Top Secret access, and people are just like "yep, here you go!" WTF.
Even if you feel like they'll do what they want no matter what, we don't have to do their jobs for them... RESIST!!!
They just need one person to give them access, just need to find one Trump supporter.

In another life, my job required me to have a fancy ID. As part of the training when receiving that ID I was specifically told to never give it to anyone or even let it out of my sight if it was not in a secure and controlled location.
IMMEDIATELY after signing forms saying I had completed that training, the person at the badge desk told me to give them my ID so they could do things. I made a half hearted joke of "This feels like a trick" and was immediately yelled at with a guard (who I am pretty sure wanted to bang said desk lady) getting in my face and telling me that it is a privilege not a right to have one of those and he is sick and tired of people not respecting the flag and blah blah blah. I need to get back to work and didn't feel like having someone wave an assault rifle in my face so I handed over the badge and decided to not care.
So yeah. When your boss says "just do it", you... just do it. And your boss is saying that because they were told to and so forth up until a shitweasel who wants to curry favor with the new administration. Because, if you don't, you will be made an example of and fired for completely unrelated reasons. And while it is easy to say "Obstruct them, get fired", that doesn't really help when you need to provide for your loved ones.
I had the same thing happen at a bank, my manager threatened to fire me if I didn't hand over my login and password. After being trained to never give anyone, even your boss, the login and password. And why? Because she was doing illegal things under the teller's logins. If she had gotten caught, I would be blamed. So I quit that job. And then the whole S&L scandal happened, and I was unsurprised. After that, I learned never to give anyone a login and password. I tell myself it's a test. I'll be fired for giving them the login and password. And if they fire me, well, get another job. I have skills to get another job these days.
And yeah, "well, your director will just give it to them." That's on my director. I will at least lose my damn job without a guilty conscience. I know I did my part for the right reasons.
In some agencies, you are trained to disobey an unethical or unlawful order. I guess people just rapidly clicked through the power point slides on mandatory training days.

And we should know that we expected Musk to have access to everything because Trump allows it. But, they're allowing a 19-year old, with connections to hacker groups, with access.
The whole discipline of not sharing information online is practically moot at this point. How can we trust that this kid won't be sharing this kind of information to his connections?
Here's the thing: Trump may has said he allowed it via executive order, and whatever. But you come after data I was sworn to protect? Come here with a judge-vetted legal warrant and court order. Oh, you'll fire me? Then I did my job. I'll be arrested for doing the right thing, not cowardly giving in "because they might yell at me." Yeah, I did that once, and I got a big fat nothing out of it. I got out before the S&L crisis, but I saw it coming a mile away. I have no loyalty to some rando from South Africa. I have a loyalty and duty to my job and country and fellow citizens.
My hope, and it's a thin hope, is that they really can't fucking do anything with the data because they don't understand it. Or lied they have it, and we let them believe this lie as part of the protection. They only have 200 copies of "WideWorldImporters Sample Database for SQL Server and Azure SQL Database" and think it's real. Or whatever. Unlikely, but I gotta have hope somewhere. Part of this is because I know how PII is stored, and it's not like one large file. It's multiple systems with "just in time" joins and a horrible complex mess that's a wonder it works at all. A bunch of 19 year olds and a rich liar are monkeys with baseball bats hitting a random laptop as a comparison. Millions are spent on contractors to work with it, and rarely does any single one person know how it ALL works. Just pieces of it. And some of it was in COBOL. What, one of those kids has a spare PDP/11 in their garage? But, maybe that's thinking too hopefully.
Even if they suddenly stopped, it will take decades to undo the damage they have already done.
Side note: "the launch codes" are not like, two hex keys to launch nuclear missiles. It's so much more complicated than that, that I used to fear in the 1980s that the Ruskies would bomb us flat before someone with the right laminated notebook was located. "What? The keys didn't work? Didn't anyone test if the keys fit? NO???" I'm not saying that's an exact case, but an example of shit I have run into. I have to also hope for sheer incompetence saving us, like out of the movie Brazil or something. God damn, this is a bleak dystopia.

Possible motive: “X” —> American WeChat
Like other crimes, with cyber attacks it is important to identify a motive to understand your attacker better and anticipate their next move. In this attack I believe the motive is a forced cutover of critical infrastructure systems in banking, telecommunications and travel to a centralized model. In plain terms what I’m saying is that DOGE wants to migrate American federal systems to X using the WeChat model where all network and transactional systems are centrally routed and processed. I believe this is the case because of these signals:

Apple silently released an update as part of 18.3 on Friday that includes Starlink support.
What this could look like from a rollout perspective is:
X is assigned as the communications authority for all government agencies, this is already underway: NTSB exclusively communicating via X.
Route all federal transactions through X: This is underway as DOGE has taken control of the federal treasury and pushed out the acting director.
Create X profiles that map to the US citizen records database, to streamline management of identity and act as proof of citizenship.
Standardize on a government monitored telecommunications network, Starlink, to allow network traffic control of all domestic communications, giving federal agencies (or just DOGE) the authority to censor information at will.
Kinda sounds like the mark of the beast.

I mean, i know the answers, but Jesus Christ. This is beyond ridiculous. Tomorrow a headline could read "Dodge has access to everyones bank account" and I wouldn't even be surprised.
Even if this were a legitimate government department and not a bunch of arrogant kids led by an unelected Nazi billionaire, it would be crazy security to give them access to everything like this.
I would trust Stellantis way more than these Dogebags.

He didn't go after USAID for probing how money given to Starlink was spent and how their terminals ended up in the hands of Russia, he did it because they were inefficient.
He didn't go after the FAA for making SpaceX follow regulations when launching massive, combustible hunks of metal above cities, he did it because they were inefficient.
He didn't go after the SEC for investigating his shady business dealings and market manipulation, he went after them because they were oh so horribly inefficient.
He didn't go after the FDA for putting up safety guardrails that affect Neuralink's human experimentation technological progress, it was because they were pure inefficiency.
He didn't go after the NTSB because they impeded Tesla and the cyber meat cleaver, but because they were InEffICiEnT.
