Nintendo is shutting down online servers for 3DS and Wii U games in early April 2024, with the exception of Pokémon Bank.
Pretendo will save us all !
In other news, piracy for 3DS and Wii U titles is projected to skyrocket in the coming months.

Now the mario kart 7 patch from last year feels even weirder
Wasn't that intended to fix an issue where other players in your multiplayer session could cause your console to execute arbitrary code? Imagine the fallout if it became "play Mario Kart and then have your console refuse to boot again"
Is Smash 4 online even playable? I remember it being laggy as hell. The Switch online has its issues but it was particularly bad on the 3DS.
I didn't buy anything from them, after they shut down some of my wii-games multiplayer-stuff right after I bought the discs new from a store
