How was your week in the US?

The weather around me is nice enough that I'm starting to run and bike again, which is nice. We had a few days of the worst sort of half-frozen sleet, but that's finally over.

I also upgraded my desktop. Partially because I had been planning to, and partially because who knows how much we might shoot ourselves in the foot with tariffs 🤦

Same shit, different pile.

The federal government is still being destroyed, but I have more hope than I did a week ago.
The judicial branch finally seems to be getting some traction on curbing the illegal activity. There's a long way to go, but it's a start.
In my home state of Wisconsin, some very good things happened. Me elected another progressive to the Wisconsin Supreme Court, which maintains the majority we finally achieved in the previous election. Musk spent a lot of his personal time, and his own money, trying to push that election the other way. Crawford one by more than 10 points, which is impressive when most of the margins have been tenths of a percent recently. The other state races generally also went well.
I can't tell you just how big this is for us here. We've been feeling the same sense of hopelessness as the rest of the country. Now everyone I've talked with seems happy, excited, and hopeful. Also, very determined to keep fighting.

  We have been slowly, but steadily, moving in the direction of sanity and compassion over the last decade. Replacing Walker with Evers was a huge trade up in every way.

Finally found time to take the AR-15 to the range and work with the instructor I've been using for the handguns.
Aaaaand while handguns are nice and all, this thing is the most fun I've had in a LONG time.
Of course I now have to scramble and decide how much ammo to buy before tariffs screw that up making this super costly (most of the cheap but not shit ammo is from SK, BR, and CZ, and even US-based stuff is made with materials from not-here).
But on the bright side, I finally got myself properly medicated, and holy shit is that fucking amazing. I've known I've had ADHD my whole life, but due the lovely bonus of also being bipolar and having a really really awful reaction to any sort of stimulant (even something mild like caffiene) it's always just kinda not been treated and ignored.
Yeah well, current pdoc wrote a script for guanfacine and it's like my whole brain suddenly just decided to make sense and behave itself. Stopped shit like leg twitches, and biting my nails, and running through crowds dodging people instead of walking a normal pace.
Also started finishing projects, being able to go to the store without a list and not forgetting a bunch of stuff, and generally just being a normal person.
- I'd say for most people 1000 rounds of your main rifle and pistol caliber is a good benchmark. Yep it's a decent amount of money but once you have it you're set for a while. It doesn't take a crazy amount of space and you'll have enough to get intentional training even if the ammo market gets weird for a bit
  
  That's the plan, basically. 1000 of 5.56, another 1000 of 9mm, but an absolutely stupid amount of .22LR for the Glock 44.
  Shit's cheap, and fun to shoot, so I might as well just buy a truckfull of it.

Feels like the end times. I have a couple friends that are working on plans to flee the country because they're trans. My partner and I were going to be looking at buying a house this year, but at this point, I'm worried that we're better off joining them, instead...

It will be interesting to see what tariffs do to us. I think there's going to be some unforseen things, like the truck chip thing during Covid.
But yeah the weather is getting nice enough that even a rainy day is no longer that 40 degee misery. I got to do a pretty long bike ride last week too which was nice

I got my garden started! The fruit trees are blooming, the weeds are coming up, and I saw this cutie in my yard. As long as I don't look at the news, things are looking good in the 'hood.

Still jobless, still fucking broke, being different is a death sentence here, can't get out because of the facists and being ubducted by ICE. So pretty much the same as usual.

Gas prices jumped 30 cents per gallon out of no where, work has been exceptionally boring but at least I'm still working though since I know some of the funding for it comes from the federal government my continued employment is very much up in the air. I'm not a 'core' part of the company, just an offshoot that's meant to tackle larger projects than the usual.. but they can easily coast with the core section until funding does come through.

It's been rainy/stormy for a few days and it will continue this weekend, which is irritating because we're helping my son move tomorrow. Can't really complain about a little rain when others are having disastrous flooding. I've been slacking really badly at work this week, but had a fun success today., so that was nice. I'm doing major renovations on a house i inherited and plan to sell my house this summer. Super worried about the economy and how long it might take to sell. The tarriffs/economy and department of education are in so many daily conversations it's exhausting.
