Would you interview somewhere that you expect would not hire you because of recreational drug use?

As in, if you were applying to delivery positions but you know they'll test for cannabis, would you even apply / interview? What about in a jurisdiction where the drug is recreationally legal?

  • I live in Ohio and am currently looking for work.

I'm still paying to places that say drug testing, but not places that specify thc testing.

As far as I'm concerned, it's a legal state, and unless they have similar testing and employment rules for alcohol (which they wouldn't be able to since it doesn't show up two weeks later) then I should be able to smoke when I want, off the clock.

If they test and it prevents me from getting the job, I feel slightly satisfied I wasted their time and money. If they follow up and ask about it, I will tell them straight up it's legal in this state and they're only limiting their options by refusing to hire people who do a legal thing.

It's probably just wasting my own time, but hey I've got time to waste.

  • Not unless I had no other choice.

Basically I'd have to face losing my house before I'd choose a job that drug tests outside of new hires or when somebody fucks up big time and it's suspicious.

    I'd also leave ASAP.

  • Always worth a shot. They may never bring it up. Some places are more strict on that than others.

There are pee cleaning solutions available. I've never had to use them, but I know people that have passed tests with them.

Can confirm, I've used them a few times. It's always best to go clean for as long as possible before getting tested, but I've had success with as little as 3 days notice.

People often think these products are scams because they're marketed like woo medicine. But that's because they have to be, they legally can't just put "THIS IS SO YOUR STONER ASS CAN PASS A DRUG TEST" on the label, so they have to sell it as a BS "cleanse".

I've only had a few people ever tell me that they didn't get it to work. But, those were people who I probably wouldn't trust to follow the directions printed on a bottle, in the first place. Just stay clean for a few days and follow the instructions exactly as they're written, and it'll work out, in my experience.

Worst case scenario is that you'll have a "dilute" result and will need to re-test a few days later. Do the same process the second time, and chances are you'll come out as dilute again. Generally, if you test as dilute twice in a row, they assume that's just your normal baseline and it's considered a pass. I've never heard of anybody coming back dilute twice and ever needing a third test, nor have I heard of anybody failing a test over dilute results.
