Tldr - article’s author feels they should have privatized it and cut wages for postal workers a decade ago. Says that turning it from a public service into a crown corp saved it in the 70s-80s but now it has to be fully privatized to work. I disagree personally but Canada Post is definitely in trouble and it seems their union is unfortunately not doing right by the corp or the members.
Worth mentioning that the author is Erin O'toole, former leader of the conservatives. They love selling things off and privatizing them.
The author is Erin O'Toole the Conservative party leader before Pierre Pollievre.
Also another example of Conservative ideology making life harder for their die hard supporters(rural folk)
I think the route is exactly the opposite, figure out what is the ESSENTIAL services from Canada Post that should be provided to every Canadian, and that should be mandated and funded by the government as the minimum (no matter the cost). Any other services it provides that are not essential can be treated like a non profit business (self sustained) or sold/abandoned.
And what killed Erin O'Toole's last chance at relevance, again?
I don’t see why privatization is the answer. We already have multiple private parcel services. I’m not against reducing letter service (almost all my mail is junk from my financial institutions). Also, citing the UK is an awful example, that country has hollowed itself out with privatization since Thatcher.
Erin's a real O'Toolbag
About as useful as a tool bag with a hole in the bottom.
Since when do conservative write opinion pieces in The freakin' Walrus??? Can't they stick to Rebel News?
