Ohh, finally a city going in the right direction. I can't wait until they discover the "roundabout" and how it calms traffic, improves flow, and also lowers accidents

Roundabouts are freakin amazing - they reduce fatal crashes by like 90% compared to signalized intersections and most people dont realize they actually improve traffic flow once drivers get used to them!
In my home town in the Netherlands they lowered max speed city wide to 30km/h (about 20mph) and almost every traffic light intersection (except a few larger ones) have been replaced with roundabouts.
The result is that driving just... Goes. You don't really stop anywhere, almost ever, and you can do about 30 km in an hour, not much slower than here in Vancouver where i just did 30 kilometers in 45 minutes and literally part of that trip was over a highway at 100km/h.
Its incredibly much more efficient yet if i tell that to people here they won't even let me finish, they immediately start screeching about how bad those designs are and that the stop sign intersections are so much more efficient and.... Uuugghhh
If you look at Pittsburgh's roads, they're quite constrained by the geography. I'm not saying you're wrong but it wouldn't be easy.
All the more reason to change it for roundabouts and change half the roads for cycling infrastructure.
Do something about the Fort Pitt Tunnel Bridge now. Place is a panic attack incarnate lol. Lower level of a bridge over a large river, very quick merging of like 5 lanes, a tunnel, and city traffic.
Lmao, right? Yet as an enjoyer of seeing road design and engineering, I'm unsure how they'd properly solve the issue without building four more bridges right there to weave the traffic more elegantly. Just too much stuff in one cramped location.
Well yeah, but reducing traffic might help too.

Gainey... Well, he hasn't been the worst Pittsburgh mayor but there are reasons he just lost his primary.
Why did he lose his primary?
He tried really hard to get the GOP to host their national convention in Pittsburgh.
He also bulldozed homeless camps around the city, mostly under bridges, right before winter. Pittsburgh doesn't have a huge homelessness issue, in large part because it gets too cold and most homeless people travel south. There weren't issues with crime or violence or anything. He just wanted to appear "tough on crime" to try to appeal to centrist voters, and I believe maybe to make Pittsburgh more attractive for the GOP convention?
The police under him have also run rampant, with multiple corruption scandals. Yet they keep getting more funding? He went through 5 Chiefs in his term.
I'm surprised the pandemic didn't impact these numbers.
