Why do so many lemmy instances have non-traditional TLDs?

I’ve seen:

Is it due to cheaper registration and/or renewal fees? Or are there simply more availability on those TLDs?

Not an expert, but to me it simply seems that you can have more domains that start with Lemmy.
my guess is it's the same as why they're used on mastodon — they're fun
